  1. You are right! Windows version allows you to import them. Regards,

  2. Hello again AmirM, When you follow above steps on the word "water" will be coded withe node you created. The content is displayed in gray by default that does not mean that those words will be coded. To check, open the node you created and select text tab and open one of the sources you will see that only "water" will be highlighted. Regards,

  4. My thesis partner and I are in the process of coding our thesis in Nvivo. First we had to code separately and now in the final stage we should merge our two files, but here we get stuck. We both worked in Nvivo 1.4.1, the only difference is that she works on a MAC computer and I on a Windows. When we forwarded our files to each other, we did the following steps: Share < copy project < convert to MAC/Windows (depending on who was sending to whom). When I (Windows user) opened her file, I got error messages. The error message said "Conversion failed. Please check 'Project C

  5. Case solved. The issue was that my project and all the files in it were stored on OneDrive. Once I moved everything to my laptop hard drive the query worked.

  7. Hi Annie, You seem to be an older service pack of NVivo 11 for Windows. in order to access Codebook feature, please follow instructions in the link below and update your NVivo software: http://qsrinternational.com/nvivo/support-overview/downloads/nvivo-11-for-windows Kind Regards, Bhupesh

  8. Hi Mary, At this time there is no way to join words together in a word cloud or word frequency query in NVivo for Mac. The link you provided appears to be for a different service or program and isn't related to NVivo for Mac, which is why the steps weren't working in your situation. The word frequency list can be exported out of NVivo and you may be able to use it as the word-list for Wordclouds.com, but as this is a service that isn't provided by us I can't assist with generating the word cloud this way, and you may need to get in touch with them for assistance. Information on how t

  9. Hello - I just had a very helpful conversation with a QSR technical expert, who found a workaround for this problem, which really did give me a nasty shock. You can still query annotations in compound queries - just use the same search terms in both sub-queries and select annotations in criteria. Jonathan

  10. Hi Bhupesh, Thanks for your reply. (1) When I run a cluster analysis on sets, the diagram shows all the sources in that set (e.g., all interviews)-- the analysis looks the same as selecting all sources -- it does not compare set vs set (e.g., School 1 vs School 2). Am I doing something wrong? (2) Matrix queries have been useful for comparing cases, but I'd hoped there was a way to run a cluster analysis. I guess I could export it to Excel for the cluster analysis. best, Lisa

  11. The two options for cluster analysis appear to be Source and Node. Is it possible to do a cluster analysis for sources that I've grouped using case classification attributes? For example, let's say School 1, School 2, School 3, ... n each have a # of sources (records, interviews, etc.). I made these sources into cases, then assigned the names of schools as case classification attributes (so School 1 is the attribute value for all its sources and so forth). I want to see which schools (= its collection of sources) have similar coding.

  12. Hi Becky, You’re not able to edit your dataset within NVivo to delete rows, but you can filter your data set to only show the rows that you’re interested in. You can also hide columns if you don’t wish to see all your columns. You can find instructions on how to do this at the following link http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/filter_sort_and_customize_datasets.htm Regards, Heather

  13. Hi Danni, You can do this by opening NVivo via the programs menu (not by clicking on the project file) and then clicking file -> options and under user profile, change the name and initials to your colleague's name and initials. Then create a new blank project (File -> new), and import your colleagues data into this blank project. Please confirm that the project user now shows as your colleague by clicking File -> (under project information) Project properties -> users. Please save and close the project. Open NVivo again via the programs menu and click File -> Options

  14. Hi MJW, The screenshots show that only the case named Int 1 has been coded. Could you code rest of your interview documents to the respective cases by right clicking each source and clicking Code and selecting respective Cases? Once the coding is complete, ensure that Classification has been applied to the cases. To check this, right click on each case, click Classification and ensure Person classification is selected. After confirming the above, ensure that attribute values have been applied to your cases. To check this, go to Classification>Case Classification, right click

  15. Hi, There are some ports and applications that must not be blocked by a firewall for NVivo Server to function correctly. Could you ensure port and application exception listed in following link have been implemented by your IT department? http://techcenter.qsrinternational.com/desktop/ns11/ns11_standard_installation.htm#MiniTOCBookMark7 If the issue persists, could you submit a support request via http://www.qsrinternational.com/customer-support so that we can investigate further? Kind Regards, Bhupesh

  17. In the process above, you can select several sources as rows and several corresponding nodes as columns. A table appears with nonzero numbers at the intersections. In the detail view, when you right-click one of the values and select ‘Cell Content > Words Coded’, it appears for all rows. You can then export the node matrix query results to excel by right-clicking in its top-left cell and choosing the adequate context menu item.

  18. Hi there, I am analyzing a specific Twitter profile. For this I would also like to import the comments and answers Twitter users write on tweets from the Twitter profile into NVivo (in order to export it into Excel). Is this possible with NCapture and NVivo and if so how? Right now I need to click on every tweet to see if there have been comments on it. Your help would be great and highly appreciated! Best, maya

  19. Hi Andrew, thanks for the information and your help so far. "You can capture a User Stream as a dataset. For example, the @lenoxhill profile can be captured, i.e. click @lenoxhill and then click the Lenox Hill link in the Profile Summary dialogue box that appears." Can you tell me the location of where to click and where exactly the Profile Summary dialogue box appears? I downloaded the tweets from the profile already but the comments/answers are missing... Best, maya

  20. As a Trainer, I feel difficult to demonstrate a practical example of cluster analysis. Could you form support create some example of using and reading the output of a cluster analysis. The creation process is quite simple but the interpretation fo results is not that easy. If you do so, make it for the three different kinds of criteria (words similarity, coding similarity and attribute values similarity). Regards, Ernani

  21. From QSR's spiel on what's new: "Enjoy enhanced usability NVivo 9‟s interface now includes a ribbon to help you quickly find frequently used commands so tasks can be completed with fewer steps." So in attempting to enhance usability, they've added the often hated clutter causing ribbon interface and removed customisable shortcuts - one of the key features that actually enhances workflow. As consumers, people should not be paying more to receive less.
