  1. Hello Rahul, Thanks for the passing on the suggestion to the technical team. Also, thank you for providing the link to "Help" that explains the export system. When I stated "search" of "Help" and could not find anything about exporting transcripts, with your link I can now see why. The search result brought back a list of titles including the one you provided a link to. However from the search results all you see is "Import audio or video transcripts". So, I did not clue onto this particular "Help" item amongst all the others as also including information on how to export a tra
  2. Hello Tane, Thank you for confirming that my steps are correct. And also for the sage advice to select and highlight a portion of the text (i.e. transcript) before right-clicking. In fact, when I first tried exporting the transcript, I ended up with exporting only the audio/video. So I stumbled around and selected as you described and was able to export the transcript. But for some reason now, as long as I do the same thing for any of the fields (i.e. Time, Transcript or Speaker) I always am able to export the transcript. So it seems the important thing is to make sure the cell is well
  3. Hello Nurselil, I am a fellow user and needed to do the same thing as you. I stumbled on one way of doing this. 1. First, in the transcript display, select a cell in the transcript itself with a left click of the mouse. It can be a cell under either the "Start Time", "End Time", "Transcript" or "Speaker" columns. (Make sure you select a cell otherwise this will not work). 2. Then right click the same cell and you will see in the right-click menu the option "Export..." (directly under "Edit"). 3. Select "Export..." and then a "Save as" Window will appear. You are then able
  4. Hello Kath, I am glad my postings are not an annoyance and actually help move development of functions up the priority list. And what a wonderful Mac user community to come up with the default setting for the columns for Time, Transcript Speaker! I will follow tradition and try to offer such suggestions as well. Cheers! Darren
  5. Hi Can, Thank you for the temporary workaround. My own workaround for audio files has to be lower the quality using iTunes. But in doing so, depending on how low the quality is, the sounds becomes muffled. So I will definitely try Audacity and see if it can reduce the size without too much loss to quality. I will work through the manual to see how to do this. The remaining issue is with video files. Because the topic of my research is now becoming mainstream here in Japan, there are many television broadcasts in the form of in-depth news/documentaries and coverage of forums an
  6. Hello, At the moment the default setting for fully embedding an audio or video file is 20MG which can be changed to a limit of 40MB. I understand from the posts in the NVivo Wndows Forum that the 40MB limit is imposed because having data and the project size too large impairs the performance of NVivo - makes it slow and open to the opportunity of freezing/crashing. I was wondering if this limit can be revisited considering the changes and performance of the current lineup of Macs? Nearly all Mac laptops/notebooks have SSD drives, high CPU performance, dedicated graphic memory a
  7. Hello Jason, Thank you for your reply and for reading my posts. I just signed up for the User Testing Community. As I mentioned in a separate post, I am working on a major research project and am using this opportunity to report any issues as they come up as well as suggestions for improvement. So, I will continue to post. I may also post questions on how to use certain functions that I either do not understand from the comprehensive "Help" or are yet to be documented. I am glad you find my suggestions for the interface make sense. And I appreciate that these are being conside
  8. Hello, In working with NVivo for Mac, I have found that the displaying the ribbon is much easier to work with than using the textual menus. For one thing, I can, in an instance, see what tools are available. This is great! However, I find that that the ribbon area takes up much more screen space than visually necessary. This means that the other display areas have less real estate to work with. I realize I can hide the ribbon area, but as I point out above, the ribbon area is great to have continually being displayed. Is there a way to reduce the ribbon space, like the other wi
  9. Hello Bhupesh, I just sent you an email to work out how to get the audio files to you. Cheers! Darren
  10. Hello, Sort of following on from what Mr_Tobi posted in the Mac Suggestions Forum: http://forums.qsrint...?showtopic=5743 When I change the layout settings - by dragging - so Mac like - of the audio transcript layout - i.e. have the order changed to Speaker>Transcript>Start Time>End Time - save and close the project, then re-open the project, the layout is reverted back to the default Start Time>End Time>Transcript>Speaker. This is an issue for me as I prefer to have my layout with the "Speaker" in the first left-hand side column as it is easier for me when

  12. Hello, When I open up NVivo and click on an audio file that has a transcript and play the audio with the "Synchronize" at the bottom left hand corner of the screen checked, the synced text is highlighted in a dark grey color. The dark grey highlighting color is so dark it is difficult to read the text. However, if I click anywhere in the transcript area, the highlighting changes to a nice light blue color which is easy on my eyes and the text now clearly visible. But the problem is that then the area of the transcript I clicked stays selected and becomes distracting. I only found t
  13. Hello Bhupesh, Thank you for your reply. Thank you for the details about the MOV file still remaining a MOV even the extension is changed to MP3. The issue here, as I explained above, I used the SAME IC recorder for both audio files. I used iTunes to reduce the quality of audio so I could embed the files in the Nvivo Project (not as a link) one straight after another. YET, one MP3 file is recognized as an MP3 file that can be imported, the other not. I am not sure what the issue is here. But this may have to be passed onto the technical staff as well. Recognition of more codecs
  14. Hello Rosaleenhow & Bhupesh, Thank you very much for the workaround. I came across this problem just now and this workaround has been a major help. At the same time, as others have pointed out, it is very strange that Nvivo for Mac is selectively able to import some mp3's and not others. For instance, I have two mp3 files recorded on the same IC recorder. Since I wanted to embed the mp3 files into the project (not as a link), I used iTunes on both files to reduce the size. Both mp3 files were under 40MB. One was able to be imported as an mp3 file, the other I had to convert t
  15. Hello Bhupesh, Thanks for the workaround information. Holding down the "left click" on the mouse (track pad) over the seek slider does indeed show the point in time. I was intuitively doing a "right click" and the time was only displaying for a millisecond. So this information has really helped me out. Also, thank you for forwarding this issue to the Product Manager for consideration to include in a future version. Cheers! Darren
