  1. I've previously done so and it was checked as OK. I may have isolated the rpoblem. If I copy (or cut) and merge multiple nodes at once, this is when the freeze sometimes occurs. Specifically, if some of the copied nodes have child nodes - and some don't - the software freezes up. There usually pops up a 'merge all' or 'merge none' dichotomy at this point. This may be the bug. Thanks Mathew
  2. Large project in progress. Many transcribed interviews and currently 2000 nodes! Applied all the optimisation tricks. Upgraded to Windows 10. Increased RAM to 12GB. Occurs on different computer. Basically when I copy and merge nodes (as part of sorting), randomly NVivo10 will stop responding. Sometimes this is with just a couple of small nodes being merged. When NVivo fails/crashes/lags for me, CPU and Memory usage still seem low. Recent error code also included. Anyone else encountered this? Mathew Version = 10.0.638.0 Exception = System.InvalidOperationException Mess
  3. Hi kmkelmor, Your upcoming project sounds similar to mine in progress. Many transcribed interviews and currently 2000 nodes! The optimisation tricks (notably around coding stripe display, plain text setting and compact/repair) did make a difference. As did working from a desktop file vs a server file. Adding RAM helped. When NVivo fails/crashes/lags for me, CPU and Memory usage still seem low - as in the attached resource monitor example. Look forward to hearing suggestions from any who have a reliable/quick hardware profile for large projects! Mathew
  4. Hi Simon, I'm currently sorting by using copy and merge for multiple nodes, into an existing parent node. If I try and copy+merge more than 3 or 4 nodes NVivo is often freezing/crashing. Current solution is constantly having to save! Thanks Mathew
  5. I managed to find an 'AppHang' error message in Windows 10 for what happens when I merge nodes: Version=1 EventType=AppHangB1 EventTime=130863463769737192 ReportType=3 Consent=1 UploadTime=130863463940555596 ReportIdentifier=bd98e89b-5793-11e5-9bc9-bc305bd4d4bf IntegratorReportIdentifier=bd98e89c-5793-11e5-9bc9-bc305bd4d4bf NsAppName=NVivo.exe Response.BucketId=d6210116217fb401b562cb1e2ffecdac Response.BucketTable=5 Response.LegacyBucketId=128905589669 Response.type=4 Sig[0].Name=Application Name Sig[0].Value=NVivo.exe Sig[1].Name=Application Version Sig[1].Value=10.0.638.0 Sig[2].Name=App
  6. Hi Kath, Doing an emergent largely constructivist GT PhD involving many perspectives/layers both emic and etic...as the conceptual layers accrete I find the coding stripes a good way to keep track of newer layers/dimensions/categories etc. eg - with a refocused code of a belatedly emergent conceptual category. Or if splitting/dissecting an overly complex node, just checking I have covered original linkages when reshuffling. Useful for a project that's been iterative for a few years! Kind regards Mathew
  7. Hi Simon, Thanks, have moved to home PC with Windows 10, 12GB RAM, 64-bit, dual 2.53GHz. Done all the above apart from renaming the customisation folder - no NVivo.exe_Url type files in those locations, in the Roaming there are user.config BAK and XML files only. My project compact-and-repairs to 160MB. 50 something transcribed interviews and many many hundreds of nodes. Trying to copy+merge not especially large numbers of nodes (eg 10-12) is freezing the project. RAM usage doesn't seem to get above 3MB, CPU spikes to 100% then sits at 50-60%. But NVivo remains nonresponsive. I did g
  8. Hi Simon, Thanks for the quick reply! re: your questions 1. Yes, and NVivo goes nonresponsive as well for awhile (see attached). 2. Network server 3. 180MB 4. Generally up to 2 or 3 levels 5. No 6. No error messages, but recent err data as below Thanks Mathew Version = 10.0.638.0 Exception = System.NullReferenceException Message = Object reference not set to an instance of an object. 9. Hi I'm reviewing/combining a project with a large number of nodes, all sources in NVivo as transcribed interviews only. Project compacts down to 180MB. I've tried every optimisation trick from here : http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/optimize_project_performance.htm?rhsearch=slow ...but nodes open very slowly, whether I am displaying coding stripes or not. Whether they contain 1 or 30 items. The node folder column sizing often goes funny. I am using Win 7 Pro 64-bit, 4GB RAM (and 8GB Readyboost). Any tips welcomed. There are only so many emails one can answe
  10. In comparative analysis having these displayed is very handy, but it really slows NVivo. Possibly unsolvable!
  11. Hi, Does anyone know of a way to display the coding stripes, when working from a node/source, vertically rather than horizontally. Working with many hundreds of codes / refs, and ones neck gets very sore tilting to the right to read the coding stripes. I have tried the detail view variations, undocking and everything else I can think of. Many thanks Mathew
  12. Hi Tane, Thank you, that is helpful. The option for selecting what detail the project event log contains would be great for a future version, could become a powerful auditing tool if nothing else. Kind regards Mathew
  13. A project member opens the referenced source in node A, and uses the 'right-click' uncode function in the source document (not the node) for a different node, B. This uncodes node B for the entire source (unintentionally), rather than the instance in A. Repeat for n nodes. Manually backtracking the Project Event Log tells us which node was uncoded from in each instance, but not which sources were affected in 'uncoding on.' Is this detail buried in the event log, by any chance? Fingers crossed. Thanks for any advice Mathew
