  1. Just a couple of more poll questions for those who have used NVivo Transcription. If you would find organizing the files in folders, comment below on how you would use the folders. Silvana
  2. Hi All, We are always trying to improve NVivo Transcription. We would like to know what you do with the transcripts in NVivo Transcription after you have corrected them and either exported them out of NVivo Transcription or imported them into NVivo. Do you leave them in NVivo Transcription? Do you delete them from NVivo transcription? Would you find organizing your uploaded files into folders useful? I am constructing a poll about this? Thanks. Silvana
  3. Hi @Melissa MacKay and @CSP, You don't want to uncode from the case - because that will limit what you can do in the queries. I am assuming here by case you mean the respondent case. However, did one of you create your thematic codes (Nodes) as cases? If so, just cut them and merge into the appropriate code (Node). Then you can run the kappa. It is hard to figure out what you did without seeing your projects. Best wishes, Silvana

This video shows the AI tools that NVivo has for automatic coding and how to leverage them to best advantage
  5. Hi Nada, From the screenshot the kappa 0s are correct because if you look at the Disagreement percentages only coder B did any coding for the indicated codes. The kappa 1 is correct because neither of the coders coded for that code in the Twitter file. Have you double clicked any of the rows in the Coding Comparison chart to see the actual coding? If this is not correct then it could be that the Twitter data was not merged. If you look in the Merged project and look at the Files area, is there only 1 Twitter data set or are there 2? If there are two, it has not merged because the Twi
  6. Dear All, Estelle is correct. Two users have to code the same files (while each logging in with their username). If they are working in separate projects, you will have to merge those projects. It is important that the hierarchical coding structure is identical in both projects before merging (which is where I think you have gone wrong AGi). Try it first which a couple of documents and a couple of codes.
  7. Announcing new online qualitative analysis course from SdG Associates 10 week course - 18 April-20 June 2011 This course will focus on the analysis process involved when using NVivo (or any other CAQDAS software) to support the analysis of qualitative data. The philosophy of the course is that the use of software should not be seen as an 'add-on' but should be integrated into the whole approach to analysis. This course will give you the framework to justify the use of software to support qualitative data analysis and to represent your research design in NVivo. It will enable you to d
  8. There are still places on the following workshops. SdG Associates will be running the following workshops: Boston, USA Intensive Introduction to NVIVO 8 - 15-16 March 2010 London, UK Intensive Introduction to NVIVO 8 - 26-27 April 2010 All aspects of the software will be covered with special emphasis on how you use NVIVO in practice - working in an iterative way, moving between coding, reflection in memos and holistic approaches to analysis. Participants will be able to work on setting up their own project on the second half of the second day. Course handbooks are include
  9. Silvana is reminding members that SdG Associates will be running the following workshops: London, UK Intensive Introduction to NVIVO 7 - 27-28 February 2008 Boston, USA Intensive Introduction to NVIVO 7/8 - 23-24 April 2008 Multi-Media with NVIVO 8 - 25 April 2008 (this can be taken as a one day workshop for those who have had training in NVIVO 7 or as a third day with the two day introduction course) All aspects of the software will be covered with special emphasis on how you use NVIVO in practice - working in an iterative way, moving between coding, reflection in memos and hol
  10. Christina, I'm not sure what you are doing wrong because I have been doing this without a problem. Are you using one document where each case is a heading 1 and each open ended question is a heading 2? If so, when you autocode are you doing it in two steps - the first time selecting heading 1 and locating it at the case nodes to autocode each case. Then the second time, selecting heading 2 and locating it a tree node to create a node for each question? If you are doing that and it is still not working for you, then check that the heading styles you are using in WORD are the default styl
  11. I will be running a Masterclass in NVIVO 7 in the UK at the pre-conference workshop at the Strategies for Qualitative Research using QSR software conference in September. Details about my masterclass format and booking can be found on www.qual-strategies.org I also will be running Masterclasses in the US in March 2007. Silvana
  12. Pat, I work with the coding stripes and coding density bar on and it does not stop me annotating the text or using the see also links. While the document itself appears to be in read-only mode because I cannot change the text, it does not stop the annotation and the links features. Silvana
  13. Hi, I've been beta testing NVIVO 7 since October and I have converted numerous NVIVO 2 projects into it. And I have already started training in it. I wouldn't say NVIVO 7 is unstable at all. It is true that the installation is a much longer process than previous QSR products and other software of this type. But that is because the installation process involves installing a number of other software besides NVIVO including the SQL component which is the database software. I will let someone from QSR expand on this aspect. The program initially does take about 50 seconds to open.
  14. I just received an urgent request from a former colleague who needs help with coding around 80 documents in NVIVO. I do not know the details of the project except it seems as though it is set up and they are clear about what they need. It would suit a student who would like to earn some extra money. Ideally, you should be located around London or the Beds, Bucks, Herts area although as you can e-mail NVIVO projects it may not be crucial if you live in these areas. If you are interested, please e-mail me personally (not the forum) at silvana@sdgassociates.com with details of your experie
  15. Just a note to QSR and trainers and potential workshop participants. Someone who is attending my Boston NVIVO workshop alerted me to the fact that the Calendar says that it is running the 12-13 July rather than the 11-12 July. I had originally put the correct dates and it says the correct dates if you read the notice but the calendar recorded it a day later. I then checked all my workshop dates in October, November and December and saw that all the dates have been shifted to one day later. I have now corrected all my dates but I guess the same might have happened to other trainers.
