  1. Hi E’lana, it’s not possible to merge datasets in NVivo. What you might want to do instead is create cases for your participants to capture their demographic data. The easiest way to do this would be to create cases from the dataset you have already coded. You can find information on how to do this at the following link: https://help-nv.qsrinternational.com/12/mac/v12.1.72-d3ea61/Content/coding/automatic-coding-datasets.htm After you have created your cases, you can import a classification sheet to add additional demographic data. Classification sheets will need to be imported as a csv file, you may be able to modify your existing dataset in Excel and save it as a csv file to import as a classification sheet. You can find information on how your classification sheet will need to be formatted and how to import it at the following link: https://help-nv.qsrinternational.com/12/mac/v12.1.72-d3ea61/Content/classifications/classification-sheets.htm Kind regards, Heather
  2. Hi, When autocoding, NVivo will compare the text content (e.g from your newly imported dataset) with the text content that has already been coded (e.g. from the previously imported dataset) to the nodes, even if from a different source. If the text content already coded to the node is similar to the text content you want to code, NVivo will code to the existing node. So, NVivo will simply compare the text coded to nodes regardless of the source it is coded from. In other words, autocoding does not occur within a specific dataset only. I hope this answers the question. Regards, Mohammad
  3. Hi, If users have access to NVivo Plus, or their University’s NVivo Pro site license, they can use the same license to install NVivo for Mac. Although it is possible to convert a project from NVivo for Mac format to NVivo for Windows format (on same version such as NVivo 12) and vice-versa, conversion is generally not recommended if done regularly. Refer to the link below for details: https://help-nv.qsrinternational.com/12/mac/v12.1.72-d3ea61/Content/projects-teamwork/work-with-projects-windows-mac.htm Note, the conversion can only be done using NVivo for Windows application. Installing NVivo for Windows on a Windows virtual machine may be a better option given the situation you’ve described. Note, depending upon the size of project, amount of RAM available to VM, amount of processing power available to VM etc., there may be some performance degradation when using NVivo for Windows in a VM hosted on a Mac operating system due to shared system resources between Mac and Windows operating systems. Regards, Mohammad
  4. Hi AmirM, Currently there is no option to do this automatically in NVivo. You may want to try creating a memo in your project to keep a track of the quotes in some way, for example source name/page number/quote by name. We use an easy and user-friendly online tool called Canny to gather all our customer feedback. May I request that you click on the following link https://nvivo.canny.io/ and share this as a feature suggestion here by creating a post. You can also vote on posts created by other users. When you post or vote on a feature, you will start receiving notification via Canny on the planned/in progress/completed actions. Regards, ^NVivoSup
  5. Hi mhondras, One option you can try is to create an attribute for each interview source document and assign a value showing the time interval, for example, an attribute ‘Stage’ with values baseline, 3-month, 6-month. The attribute can then be used later in queries to find relevant coding. See below link for more information: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/classify_sources.htm Hope this helps. ^NVivoSup
  6. Hi Nicky, You could create a case for each of your participants and code all of their interviews to their case node. Later on, you could use a query to see how many participants (cases) are coded to each theme node. There is not a simple way to do this, but the following should give you the information you are after. First, create a set that contains all of your participant cases. You can then run a matrix coding query that has your nodes as the rows and this set as the columns. Once you have run your query you can change the matrix cell content to display cases coded. You can find information about cases at the following link: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/concepts/about_cases.htm You can find information on creating a set at the following link: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/create_and_manage_sets.htm? Information on creating matrix coding queries can be found at the following link: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/run_a_matrix_coding_query.htm Regards, Heather
  7. Hi LMG, If you open a node you will be able to see the percentage of the source that is coded to this node. This will be displayed next to the source name and number of references coded. You can also create a chart to show coding for a source, and this will show the percentage coverage for each of your nodes. You can find more information on creating a chart at the following link: http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/create_a_chart.htm Kind regards, Heather
  8. Hi mjhill02, You do not need to uninstall/reinstall NVivo in order to activate the license key. As the trial is still running you can wait until it expires, at that time NVivo will prompt for a new license key. Using the help menu, you should see Manage License options (see screenshot). Deactivate will not be available if a project is currently open. If you cannot activate the license key or see any error messages, can you please log a support ticket via the below link and include a screenshot of the error: https://qsrinternational.com/nvivo/contact-us/customer-support Regards, ^NVivoSup
  9. Hi serranoang, Can you please log a support request via this link: https://qsrinternational.com/nvivo/contact-us/customer-support and include a screenshot showing where the play control is greyed out. Regards, NVivoSup
  10. Hi, Sorry to hear that issue hasn't been resolved. Could you please reply to one of our emails so that we can assist you in resolving the issue with your license? Kind Regards, Bhupesh
  11. Hi, It doesn't seem possible to generate such a detailed report in NVivo 11. You can try running some of the predefined reports to see if you can use the data from those reports. Note that Node Classification Summary Report/ Extract does not return any results. Also, creating a custom Report/ Extract using the Case Classification view returns no results. Refer to the link below for more information on Reports: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/understand_predefined_reports_and_extracts.htm You may also find Matrix Query helpful. Refer to the link below: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/run_a_matrix_coding_query.htm Kind Regards, Bhupesh
  12. Hi Sarah, You can run a Matrix Coding query between your nodes and interviews, and open each matrix cell to see the overlap. http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/run_a_matrix_coding_query.htm Another method is to open an interview, turn on Coding Stripes for Nodes and manually check the overlap. http://help-nv11mac.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/use_coding_stripes_to_explore_coding.htm Kind Regards, Bhupesh
  13. Hi Scotty, You can right click on the dataset, click Uncode and select the items you want to uncode it from. In regards to your second question, it is not possible to edit a dataset in NVivo. But you can uncode the data from one dataset and code the data to nodes/cases belonging to another dataset. Kind Regards, Bhupesh
  14. Hi charlotten22, One option that you can try is to: 1. Create a copy of each file. 2. In the copy of your project, delete the documents/coding from Set A leaving just Set B. 3. Merge the two projects, this will create a project that has the Set A and any additional comments from the reviewer copy and Set B, which will merge as it is still the same in both files. Hope this helps. ^NVivoSup
  15. Hello, NVivo 12 Mac supports and reads .wav files. If you are facing issues to import .wav files, please try the steps below: 1. Open your audio file in QuickTime Player. 2. Click File tab 3. Click Export > Audio Only 4. Give a name the file and save it Then try importing in NVivo. I hope this helps. Regards, Akshay
  16. Hello, To understand how text match settings are used by NVivo, please see the link below: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/deep_concepts/understand_text_match_settings.htm Note NVivo uses the WordNet lexical database(dictionary) for text relates searches. For more information on WordNet please refer to the following link: http://wordnet.princeton.edu/ I hope this information is helpful. Regards, Akshay
  17. Hello, You can use Matrix Coding Query to view the matrix table. However, Matrix Coding query will only show number of references in each cell and then you will need to manually open each cell to see the actual data. Alternatively, you may also run Framework matrix and click auto summarise option in the matrix to automatically fill the summaries in each cell. Please see the link for information on Matrix coding and Framework matrix below: http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/run_a_matrix_coding_query.htm http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/concepts/about_framework_matrices.htm I hope this helps. Akshay
  18. Hi Amir, After consulting our technical team, we have found a way to export a report of nodes and their references in the order you created. Please follow the steps below to achieve this: Open your project in NVivo Click on Nodes in navigation view Click on any node Click on the layout tab Select Sort By under Sort & Filter section Select Custom from the drop list 1. click on New Report via Wizard... menu to bring up the wizard dialog. 2. Step 1, choose Node as From a view. 3. Step 2, choose fields, make sure Node.Folder Location and Node.List Order are chosen. 4. Step 4, choose Node.Folder Location for grouping level. 5. Step 5, choose Node.List Order as sort order. I hope this helps. Regards, Akshay
  19. Hi Martin, Apologies for the delayed response. In order to find out the numbers of commenters you have coded in NVivo, please follow the steps below: Autocode the youtube dataset by source style or structure. Please see the link for information on autocoding: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/automatically_detect_and_code_themes.htm This will create cases and you can code comments to each respective case. Then you can run a matrix coding query with cases and theme nodes. Please see the link for information on running matrix coding query: http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/run_a_matrix_coding_query.htm?rhsearch=matrix coding&rhsyns= Once the query is complete, you can change the cell content to ‘Cases Coded’ Then export the results to excel and manually calculate the numbers. I hope this helps. Regards, Akshay
  20. Hi Austen, It looks like you may have moved the file to a different location and when you try to open your project from the ‘Recent Project list’ in NVivo, NVivo is unable to find the project. To search your project, please try searching .nvp extension for Windows project in your computer and see if you can locate your project. If you are unable to find your project, please follow the steps below and see if your project is located at the following location: From the Start screen, start typing Explorer and click on File Explorer in the search results displayed A new File Explorer window opens up. Click on the View tab and check the Hidden Items option. Navigate to C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Temp Look for a file that has the same name as your NVivo project but with a _log at the end, so it would be '<project name>_log'. Rename this file to ‘OLD<project name>_log'. If there are any other files that have ‘_log’ at the end, rename those as well by adding the word old at the start of the filename In this Temp folder, look for a file that has the same name as your NVivo project but with a .tmp file extension, so it would be '<project name>.tmp.nvp'. This project file will most likely contain your most recent changes to your project. To ensure you still have a backup of this version, make a copy of it first. You should rename this project file to '<project name>.nvp'. You can do this by right clicking on your mouse and selecting the Rename option. Try opening this project file. I hope this helps. Regards, Akshay
  21. Hi Amir, Currently, there is no way to export a report of nodes and their references in the order directly from NVivo. I have raised this with the product team to check if there is a way to achieve this. I will post the steps and information to the forum if the steps are available. Thanks, Akshay
  22. Hi, You should be able to import the first interview for the interviewee and create a case from it. You can then import the second interview for the same interviewee and code it to the same case your created previously. Then classify it by attributes with date and time. These attributes can later be used in queries. You can do the same for the third interview and other interviewees. I hope this helps. Akshay

  24. Hi MItja, You may be able to use a combination of word and text search queries. For the word frequency queries you can save results as nodes. For the text search query you can try expanding your results by searching for stemmed words or by changing the spread search option to include more words surrounding the word you are searching for, see the following link for more information: https://help-nv.qsrinternational.com/12/win/v12.1.72-d3ea61/Content/queries/text-search-query.htm?Highlight=operator#Tipsfortextsearchqueries Hope this helps. Regards, NVivoSup
  25. Hi Helen, So that we can investigate this issue further, can you please submit a support case via the below link and let us know if this is impacting all projects or just one?
