  2. Hi CVRyan,

Can you please follow the steps below to see if it helps?

Note, taking this action will reset any customization you have set up and your 'My Recent Projects' list on the Welcome screen will be refreshed. If you use NVivo 9, 10 or 11 on the same PC these steps will also reset any customization you have setup in that program.

Next time you open NVivo 12, navigate to where your project is located and double-click on the project icon to open it. This action will place the project name back in the 'My Recent Projects' list.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. With NVivo 12 closed, follow the steps below:

                          i.        In the search box on the task bar (bottom left), start typing ‘Folder Options’ and click on File Explorer Options in the search results

ii.        In the new file explorer window that opens up, click on the View tab.

iii         In the Advanced settings section, under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files, folders and drives option and click OK

    2. Navigate to the following folders:

    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\QSR_International

    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\QSR_International  (If exists)

    3. Within these folders, rename all folders where the name starts with NVivo.exe_Url (e.g rename to old NVivo.exe_Url).

    Kind Regards,

    Bhupesh

  3. Hi Liz,

Unfortunately, NVivo projects are not backwards compatible which means New NVivo projects cannot be opened in any older versions of NVivo. You will not be able to save your project in an older version format. To be able to open the project, your supervisor will need to upgrade their NVivo license to the New NVivo for a cost from the link: https://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo-qualitative-data-analysis-software/buy-now ^NVivoSup

  4. Hi RebeccaL,

NVivo reports are not able to relate the nodes to cases.  You can try the following steps to generate a document containing the intersecting references between nodes and cases/case attributes:

    1. Run a matrix coding query with the nodes as rows and the cases or case attributes as columns.

    2. Save the query result as a node matrix and select the Location as Node Matrices.

    3. Browse the Navigation View and click on the Node Matrices folder.

    4. Right-click on the saved node matrix from the List View and select Copy from the context menu.

    5. On the Navigation View, right-click on the Nodes folder and then select Paste. Paste the node matrix as Node.

    6. A node with child nodes will be created.  The parent node will have the same name as the Node Matrix name.  Child nodes will be created and these correspond to the cases and attributes that were selected in the query. Each node contains the intersecting coding reference for the matrix query criteria.

You can export the references by right-clicking on the node, clicking on Export > Export node, and selecting Reference View in the export options.  The Save As  field shows where the exported document is located. You can also generate a Coding Summary by Node Report and filter the report only to the nodes that you need.

  5. Hi Maryam,

You can try the steps below to get the references from a Matrix Coding query result:

    1. Save the Matrix Coding query result as a Node Matrix by saving the results in the Node Matrices folder.

    2. In the Navigation View, browse to Node Matrices folder and then look for the saved node matrix from the Matrix Query result.

    3. Right-click on the node matrix and click Copy.

    4. Right-click on the Nodes folder and then paste the node matrix as a node.

This will create a parent node with the same name as the Node Matrix name.  Child nodes will be created and these correspond to the nodes and cases/attributes that were selected in the query.

  6. Hi Jeanette,

Unfortunately, it is not possible combine the timelines of several files. We use an easy and user-friendly online tool called Canny to gather all our customer feedback. May I request that you to click the link https://nvivo.canny.io/and share your feature suggestion here by creating a post? You can also vote on posts created by other users. When you post or vote on a feature, you will start receiving notification via Canny on the planned/in progress/completed actions.^AK

  7. Hi Luci_2402,

Excel files are normally imported into NVivo as datasets and you can code datasets by row or by cell (for columns that are classified as codable fields). You can try exporting the Excel file to PDF directly if that is able to retain the form format.  Please also refer to the following link for some of our researchers' insights in preparing projects for analysis in NVivo: https://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo-qualitative-data-analysis-software/support-services/customer-hub/research-ready-(1)/research-ready

  8. Hi Ang,

To try and resolve your issue, could you please copy your project to your Desktop and then follow the instructions below using your Desktop copy of your project:

    1.    Start NVivo with the program icon (not project file).

    2.    Click the File tab, click Help, and then click Compact and Repair Project. The Select Project dialog box opens.

    3.    Locate and select your project from the Desktop.

    4.    Click Open.

Once the compact and repair completes, open your project and see if the issue is resolved. If the issue is not resolved, try merging your project into a blank new project. To do this:

    1. In NVivo, create a blank new project.

    2. Click the Import tab and the click the Project icon.

The 'Import Project' dialog box appears.

    3. Click Browse and navigate to and select your project file from the Desktop.

    4. Click Import.

Once the import finishes, see if this issue is resolved in this new project file, which contains your entire project data. If this does not resolve the issue, please send us a support request via the Get In Touch link on the page below:

    https://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo-qualitative-data-analysis-software/support-services/support-center

    I hope this helps. ^NB

  9. Hi Alana,

You can try re-importing the RIS file in a new blank project and check if all source files are imported in NVivo. If all the sources get imported, you can then save the project and the merge your current project and your previous project so that the coding is merged and the files are imported in one project. Please see the link to merge the projects: https://help-nv.qsrinternational.com/12/win/v12.1.96-d3ea61/Content/projects-teamwork/import-items-from-another-nvivo-project.htm ^AK

  10. Hi Penny,

Can you try the following steps to remove the table formatting from the document in NVivo.

    1. Open the document in edit mode
    2. Click in the table.
    3. On the Edit menu tab, in the editing group, click Table > Convert to Text.

If this does not resolve the issue, please send us a support request via the Get in Touch link on the page below:

    https://www.qsrinternational.com/nvivo-qualitative-data-analysis-software/support-services/support-center

    I hope this helps. ^NB

  11. Hi JulianYates, NVivo for Mac currently does not have a Replace feature.  You can search for the word in Edit mode (press Command+F or click on the Find function in the menu ribbon) but will have to replace the word one at a time. There is already a request for this in our feedback tool (https://nvivo.canny.io/features/p/find-and-replace-option), please add your comments and votes to this feature. I have also passed your feedback to our product team.
