Hi LPrice, A couple of questions: Does a single source document (interview transcript) contain data for years 1, 2 and 3, or only for a single year? You say you have 600 source documents. Are you after 600 different "profiles" ("I need to generate a "profile" of a source document...") or are you after a single profile covering all documents, which you can filter by year (or other nodes)? Kind regards,

Triangulation Output
marcusogden replied to jason71's topic in NVivo 12 for Windows and Older Versions
Hi Jason, This seems more of a research design question than a software question. Do you intend to do data triangulation, investigator triangulation, methodological triangulation...? Might be one to discuss further with your supervisor. Or if you'd like to discuss with other researchers, can I suggest our LinkedIn user discussion group. Regards, -
Coding in framework matrices
marcusogden replied to Abby Haynes's topic in NVivo 12 for Windows and Older Versions
Hi Abby, My understanding is that the process of summarising data in the matrix is central to the Framework method (in the same way that thematic coding is central to other methodologies), and that the Framework method doesn't entail coding of the summaries themselves prior to interpretation. In NVivo, there is no capability to code summaries in a framework matrix - instead, you can create "summary links" from passages in your summaries back to specific passages in the primary text. If you do wish to code your summarised text, one workaround I can recommend is to export your framework -
Hi Marie, If you export your Coding Comparison Query results to Excel, perhaps you could compare the figures for "A and B (%)" with the figures for "Disagreement (%)". For example, if "A and B (%)" [positive agreement] is 30%, "Not A and Not B (%)" [negative agreement] is 60% and "Disagreement (%)" is 10%, then this means that: 40% of the Source (30% + 10%) was coded at the Node by at least one coder, and 30% of the Source was coded by both coders Therefore, of the content that was coded by at least one coder, the coders were in agreement 75% of the time (30% / 40%) Hope this helps.

Hi Jon, QSR does offer "student" (12 month) and "semester" (6 month) pricing for NVivo - see http://www.qsrinternational.com/quick-order.aspx I'm not sure of the terms of your university's site license, but I'd be happy to put you in touch with our business manager in the US to discuss whether there's an economical way to accommodate your teaching needs within the framework of your site license. Are you still at the University of Hawaii? Regards,

Hi Jon, You can do both these things in the software already. To see the annotations in a node view, just turn on the Annotations pane via the View tab of the ribbon. (I've attached a screenshot.) You can do the same in query results. Also, text search queries will find text in annotations - for instance in your example above, if you did a text search query for "identity" (selecting Search in = "Text and annotations"), the query would find the annotated passage. You could also scope the query to search only in content coded at the node "food preferences", to combine the search for "id

Thanks for the suggestion Junaid. We'll consider this for a future release of NVivo. Regards,

Allow structured coding in Quick Coding toolbar
marcusogden replied to johnkingeu's topic in NVivo for Windows
Hi John, Here's how you can code to a node like Nodes\\Universities\Structure using the keyboard only: 1. Select the content you want to code 2. Press Ctrl+Q to go to the right-hand box of the Quick Coding toolbar 3. Type "Structure" (or just the first few characters of "Structure"). You'll see an auto-suggestion list appear with "Structure (Nodes\\Universities)" in it 4. Press the up or down arrow keys to select "Structure (Nodes\\Universities) in the auto-suggestion list 5. Press ENTER to code 6. Press Ctrl+Q again to go back to the content pane Hope this helps. Regards, -
