  1. Hello folks, there appears to be some limitations to the chart feature on the Mac using NVIVO 12. I am able to create a chart using one File within Data, one Node within Codes, a Memo within Notes, BUT not a Case within Cases. Nor is one able to highlight multiple files or nodes and create a chart. This means that one is able to produce a chart of one interviewee’s response via a file, but one is not able to produce a chart of all the cases that are female or all the cases that are of a certain age, etc. Can anyone help with a workaround here? Many thanks.
  2. I have about 30 interviews with respondents having a number of different attributes - gender, age, occupation, etc. I am wanting to aggregate the data from particular groups and display the resultant chart. For example what were the main topics discussed by the males or the older groups or specified occupations. Currently I can only show data for one respondent at a time. How does one aggregate the data for a group and create the chart? I am using NVIVO 12
  3. I have been able to solve this one. This was happening in cases and was because some of my annotations were being picked up in the count also. It was effectively double counting some special quotes that I had put in there and so they had to be removed. I uncoded them from detail view - but had to do this repeatedly for each case folder the individual was in. For example, teacher folder, female folder, etc. Thanks all the same.
  4. Hello folks, Using NVIVO for Mac 12 and somehow I have two files in five of my 30 cases. How does one remove the second files from cases (I have five respondents that have two files when viewed in cases)? There is the complete transcript (one file) and then somehow I've managed to add some additional material from Memos into the case. One can view the extra material when viewed in REFERENCE or in SUMMARY view, but I'm unable to delete this extra material. I would show you a screen shot but this system only allows 30kb uploads and a simple screenshot is about 280kb - oh well, I hope
  5. I am in the process of running queries on my interviews (n=30) and I am wanting to compare different groups within the total and what words are driving their thinking. When displaying words it appears the default is 1000. I have attached below two columns from a result which shows the most common word occurring 202 times and the least common - only once. Somewhere down this list the usage becomes irrelevant. I'm trying to determine where this might be. What is a ball park figure for identifying how far down this list an item is still considered significant? For example, does one use
  6. When doing some matrix coding I note that the Mac version produces the Node Matrix with rows (respondent attributes) and columns (nodes), however it only supplies the raw data. It would be nice to have the percentages in there like the windows version. Cheers.
  7. Ditto. Not a big issue but a frustrating one even in Nvivo for Mac 11.4.0 Cheers.
  8. Thank you - this resolved the issue (classification as a respondent).
  9. I have attached three screenshots. The first one is my data sources. The next one is showing that I’ve made them case nodes also. The final one is my respondent list which shows that one principal is missing. There should be six, however the last one that I interviewed is not in that list. From Heather down to Stephen (5) are my principals, but Charles is missing. I know I added him in later but I'm not sure why he doesn't appear on the respondent list. Why? What am I missing in this process? PS all names are pseudonyms.
  10. Thanks Heather, After I posted the question I realised I gave a poor example. There are times when my transcription included all my responses to the interviewee (right, ok, yes, etc) and this was breaking up the flow of what I consider to be one utterance for the want of a better word. Where there are clarifying questions I've left them in as you've indicated above. However the 'encouraging grunts' from the interviewer have now been removed - and I think that is the best way to go? Regards, Mark
  11. Thank you, Tane. I have a related question in that as I'm coding the transcripts, there are those times that I've asked a clarifying question. For example, Teaching has always, in my mind, been a vocation, and so therefore if it .. what do you mean by that? that's we're always going to be giving more than our job descriptions states. And we're always going to give more of ourselves and we're always going to be in a scenario whereby, you know teaching from my perspective is a very giving ah um career. When I code this in two parts it will indicate it is two references rather than ju
  12. Sorry folks if this is a basic question that I should know, but I'm a newbie at this. I've just imported my transcribed interviews and done some coding. I noticed that before I began there was already one coding stripe for the entire length of the document with the person's name. When I hover the cursor over it's one of my cases. All interviews or cases have this one coding stripe in place before I began. Should I leave this one or can it be deleted? What purpose does it serve? Many thanks in advance.
