I am in the process of running queries on my interviews (n=30) and I am wanting to compare different groups within the total and what words are driving their thinking. When displaying words it appears the default is 1000. I have attached below two columns from a result which shows the most common word occurring 202 times and the least common - only once. Somewhere down this list the usage becomes irrelevant. I'm trying to determine where this might be. What is a ball park figure for identifying how far down this list an item is still considered significant? For example, does one use

When doing some matrix coding I note that the Mac version produces the Node Matrix with rows (respondent attributes) and columns (nodes), however it only supplies the raw data. It would be nice to have the percentages in there like the windows version. Cheers.

Thank you - this resolved the issue (classification as a respondent).

I have attached three screenshots. The first one is my data sources. The next one is showing that I’ve made them case nodes also. The final one is my respondent list which shows that one principal is missing. There should be six, however the last one that I interviewed is not in that list. From Heather down to Stephen (5) are my principals, but Charles is missing. I know I added him in later but I'm not sure why he doesn't appear on the respondent list. Why? What am I missing in this process? PS all names are pseudonyms.

Thanks Heather, After I posted the question I realised I gave a poor example. There are times when my transcription included all my responses to the interviewee (right, ok, yes, etc) and this was breaking up the flow of what I consider to be one utterance for the want of a better word. Where there are clarifying questions I've left them in as you've indicated above. However the 'encouraging grunts' from the interviewer have now been removed - and I think that is the best way to go? Thank you, Tane. I have a related question in that as I'm coding the transcripts, there are those times that I've asked a clarifying question. For example, Teaching has always, in my mind, been a vocation, and so therefore if it .. what do you mean by that? that's we're always going to be giving more than our job descriptions states. And we're always going to give more of ourselves and we're always going to be in a scenario whereby, you know teaching from my perspective is a very giving ah um career. Sorry folks if this is a basic question that I should know, but I'm a newbie at this. I've just imported my transcribed interviews and done some coding. I noticed that before I began there was already one coding stripe for the entire length of the document with the person's name. When I hover the cursor over it's one of my cases. All interviews or cases have this one coding stripe in place before I began. Should I leave this one or can it be deleted? What purpose does it serve? Many thanks in advance.
