Hello everyone, Just like the coding process, there are multiple ways of uncoding your data. Besides manually selecting the content itself, you can also uncode via coding stripes. To do this please follow below steps: Open the item. Turn on coding stripes—on the item's tab in the ribbon, click Coding Stripes and select a coding stripe option. Select the stripe for the reference you want to uncode and open the context menu—click Uncode. I hope this helps you all. Regards,

I am an Nvivo newbie, who has just coded all of my interviews (with way too many nodes 450!! which I am now sorting through, organizing hiearchally, finding synonyms, etc) However once I have coded my sources, I can't really see what I have coded where from within the source itself. My coded sections are highlighted, but I don't know how to see which nodes I've coded. I don't find the coding stripes at all helpful, I just want to see a list of the codes I have used on a selection. I've tried exporting to word (I can get my source classifications shown but not the nodes) and printing to PDF (it's one hot confusing mess). Do you have any tips to help me see how I have coded my transcripts within Nvivo and how to export the coded transcripts with codes to Word. Thanks in advance. Melissa PS. I don't have any problem generating a report showing me which nodes I have used and where I have used them for an interview - these are presented alphabetically by node. What I would like is to see the nodes in a 3rd column beside my transcript sections - column 1 timestamp, column2 text, column 3 nodes.

I have a recurring issue with coding stripes. I run NVivo 11 on a PC. Coding stripes are often in the wrong place. This causes issues when I am going back to work to double check what I've coded and where, or when I return to work each day. Often the stripes are in the wrong place (a few inches down the screen). I know this is definitely the case because sometimes it happens a few seconds after I've done it, and in any case I can check by clicking on the respective stripe and seeing which part of the text it highlights. Is this a known issue with Nvivo 11? I have seen someone mention that when they printed out their coding it happened. Jenni

The view setting currently reverts back to the pre-set standard every time you open a new node or source (or reopen the entire project at the start of the day), which means no highlights or codes are displayed. Could you please add a feature that allows the user to customise this setting. Particularly, it would be helpful to allow 'Highlight' -> 'Coding for All Nodes' to be permanently selected for all sources / nodes. The same goes for 'Coding Stripes' -> 'Nodes Recently Coding'. It is rather frustrating that I have to select both options every time I enter a new node / source. In bigger projects this slows my work down quite considerably. I do not know whether I should post this separately but I have a connected suggestion: Please add a feature that shows all the Coding Stripes for the text currently shown on screen. It is great that you are already providing so many different options (e.g. show 'Nodes Most Coding' or 'Nodes Recently Coding') but in bigger projects these functions are not sufficient to help me determine which codes/nodes have already been applied to the text (unless I have recently coded the section or it happens to be a frequently used code/node). In other words, as I scroll down in a long document it would be great if the coding stripes on the right continued to change to what is actually relevant to the text on screen (i.e. selected for the text shown). I know there is a maximum of how many stripes can be shown at once but even if it could only display 7 current stripes that would already help a lot. Thanks and all the best, Tobias

I am currently running matrix queries and would like to be able to save the results in a format that is easy to share with my team (many of whom do not have NVivo). Additionally, I'd like the saved results to have the coding stripes so it's easy for my teammates to see the overlap/intersection of the codes of interest. Is this possible?

Hi there, I would like to use coding stripes, whilst coding my data in Nvivo for mac. However, when I click into the coding stripes section all of the options such as 'all nodes coding' cannot be selected (see attached print screen). Why is this and what do I do to change it. When I look at tutorials they simply suggest to select these and they will show up. Thanks.

I have recently upgraded a project from Nvivo 10 for Mac to 11. After opening the project, I found that one of my heavily coded internal documents now shows a total of 0 nodes/ stripes. As I am in institutional uses, I am unable to use my now expired key with NVIVO 10, though I have the original .nvpx file. Is there any way to open my original file without upgrading to explore why my coding has disappeared? What might have caused this and how might i recover my coding? Thanks.

Using NVivo for Mac 11.0.0. Is it me or is there a problem here. I cannot switch on the coding stripes.

Hi I'm reviewing/combining a project with a large number of nodes, all sources in NVivo as transcribed interviews only. Project compacts down to 180MB. I've tried every optimisation trick from here : http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/optimize_project_performance.htm?rhsearch=slow ...but nodes open very slowly, whether I am displaying coding stripes or not. Whether they contain 1 or 30 items. The node folder column sizing often goes funny. I am using Win 7 Pro 64-bit, 4GB RAM (and 8GB Readyboost). Any tips welcomed. There are only so many emails one can answer waiting for a node to open!

In comparative analysis having these displayed is very handy, but it really slows NVivo. Possibly unsolvable!

Hi, I have coded numerous documents (PDFs and Word) and have had great success with coding stripes. I'm currently coding transcripts, and when I select "show nodes recently coding," nothing happens. Usually the coding stripes will show up alongside the item I'm coding, but in transcripts, this does not work. The current transcript was created in Nvivo (not imported), but even imported transcripts don't show coding stripes either. I can see that items have been coded based on the numbers indicated in the "sources" and "references" columns in Nodes. I can't find anything about coding stripes not showing up beside transcripts in the help guide, so I hope someone here will have a solution. Thanks!

Hello - I ran a text query in a dataset with Spreading = None. When I highlight the results in the text, it highlights just the words in the text search; however, when I look at the results as coding stripes, it includes the entire cell for the dataset entry. Is there any way to show the coding stripes just for the location of the text (these are long text entries and therefore difficult to find in the cells without the coding stripes to help you). I am using NVivo for Windows with Parallels Desktop on Mac. I have just started a new project in NVivo for Windows because the Mac-Version is still limited in functions and because of the possibility to export the project later on from Windows to Mac - and I definitely prefer to work only on the Mac-Version in the future as soon as there are more functionalities available in NVivo for Mac. In order to test how it would work to export a project from Windows to Mac, I copied the project (File - Manage - Copy Project) and converted it to a Mac project. Everything appeared to work fine, but I noticed that in PDFs which have been coded before the coding stripes have disappeared. If the coding stripes of that PDF in the Windows-Version are quite colored, there aren't any coding stripes in the same PDF in the Mac-Version. There are just the node names as usual besides the Coding density, but no stripes. Also the stripe of the coding density is just white. I am working on a project with a research assistant. Because merging files is not available on Mac NVIVO yet, we are sharing a single file and coding asynchronously. When I view project properties, both of our user names are there so I know that it is reading our work as separate. However, I'd like to check my assistant's work. I don't see any notation that indicates which coding stripes are hers and which are mine. Is there a way I can view coding stripes of just one user (either me or my research assistant)? Thank you!

Hello. Since NCapture is not available or the Mac version of Nvivo, I copy-pasted some blog posts into Word files and imported these into Nvivo. For some of the documents, I had saved them as PDFs. I've been practicing coding, and while I have had no trouble selecting lines of text to code, after coding a few documents, I turned on coding stripes, and it appears that in the PDFs, the whole document has been coded as each individual code used in that document rather than just selected areas. In other words, when I click a coding stripe named "purpose statement," instead of the sentence or line that I've coded being indicated with highlighting, the entire document from start to finish appears to be coded as that node name. Likewise, the coding density indicator shows that the entire document has been coded (even when I only selected a few lines here and there). EDITED to add: I figured out what I did wrong by going to the Windows forum. I had clicked on 'New Node' or 'Existing Nodes' under 'Code Source at' instead of 'Code Selection at' in the 'Analyze' tab of the ribbon. I think I did this because the "Code Source at" icons are highlighted yellow and the "Code Selection at" buttons are light blue color and blend in more with the Nvivo interface. UGH. I've coded ten documents this morning...and now I have to uncode them. I'll leave this post here in case someone else does something this stupid. Is there any way to change the location or colors of some Nvivo features (like "code select at")?

Once I enabled the coding stripes (highlight for code density only), the file becomes painfully slow to respond. For example, under the situation when coding strips are shown, coding each row takes such a long time to finish.... Is this common or only to my file?
