  2. I made a text search on my sources - dozens of papers - and i want to sort the result based on date attribute of source classification. I tried to create a set from result but still impossible sorting the listing. Sorry if this is easy, i searched here and did not find any solution. The sources imported from endnote, mendeley, etc. have a lot of metadata very useful to develop bibliometric analysis and i wish do it in Nvivo. Thanks.
  3. Hi, I am trying to do what is explained in your help file: "Analyze the most frequently used words in a particular demographic. For example, analyze the most common words used by farmers when discussing climate change You could do a coding query to gather all content coded at climate change and at nodes with the attribute farmer—then select the result node as the criteria for the Word Frequency query." So I have 2500 email texts - cases , with attribute "type" and its values "error", "suggestion", "comment". I would like to do a word frequency just on cases where attribute type=error. First I do Query/Coding/Selected items and select Cases/My cases (all 2500 of them). Then I set criteria: Coded at/ Any case where/Survey Respondent:Type equals value Error, and use Spread to Entire Source. I do Run Query but I get all the 2500 results without any "filtering"/criteria. What am I doing wrong? Thank you Mitja
  4. When I select an individual Interview in the People source folder, and go to properties and try to select a classification (people), there are no classifications listed. When I go over to Node Classifications, however, Person is there, along with all the attributes (Race, age,etc.). To give more background about my file: In the Node tab there is a People subfolder, with the same titles (of interviews) as in the Source tab. In Source tab, there is a People folder, with each interview titled the same in the Node tab. However, all the Participants located in the People folder have 0 sources and 0 references. All the Nodes (in node tab) under the People folder representing the interviews have 0 sources and 0 references, while the transcripts (With the same names) located under Internals/People are showing the nodes coded. As far as I can tell, there is a problem with classifying sources and assigning the attribute values to them. Thanks! NVIVO file screenshots.doc
  5. Hello, I'm afraid I'm once again banging my head against my desktop. I'll try to explain as best I can what I'm trying to do, but if anything's unclear please ask below for further details (the answer may be in the details, after all). I have a classification of 'Value' where goods talked about can have either one of the following three attributes: 'High value', 'Medium value', and 'Low value' (not named 'budget' for consistency). I've already created a node matrix to see if any of the nodes are strongly correlated within the text. So for example, I have learnt that the node of 'staff costs' is strongly correlated with 'cost reduction' overall. I would now like to do this for each attribute (by each value of good) to see if, for example, high value goods have the 'marketing' node and the 'increased competition' node more strongly correlated than the low value goods, which may have 'market opportunity' strongly correlated with 'marketing'. Or even better, I'd like to see whether the 'staff costs' correlation with 'cost reduction' is only present in low value goods, and not in high or medium value goods. I've made the relationships up, but this is the kind of process I'm looking for Nvivo to do. Any hints? Thanks again! Julia
  6. Hello, I am trying to do something that I think should be simple, but I am getting the wrong results and I can't work out why. I have attached a word document with screen shots to show what I am doing, in the hope that someone can tell me what I am doing wrong - LGough matrix coding problem.docx I have an NVivo project with one source - a dataset of survey respondents. Each row is a unique respondent - there are 477 rows, therefore 477 unique respondents. There are many columns containing the answers to a range of closed and open ended questions. I have created a "respondent" parent node which contains a child node for each respondent . Each child node has attribute values according to the respondent's answers to the closed-ended questions. Two of the closed ended questions asked are "Q1 What cohort are you in" (undergraduate, postgraduate etc) and "Q2 what is your method of study" (full-time, part-time etc). All 477 respondents answered these two questions. I want to essentially create an Excel-style Pivot Table which counts how many respondents fall into each combination (pair) of attributes - e.g., how many full-time undergraduates are there, how many part-time postgraduates are there etc. I know what the answer should be as I can create the pivot table in Excel, but I want to be sure I can get the same answer in NVivo as I am very new to using it and want to make sure I understand what I am doing. Whatever I try in NVivo (including every option under "cell content" in the matrix coding query) gives me the incorrect numbers. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, it is driving me insane!   7. I imported my interviews, all audio files, as internal sources in NVivo. They are now all transcribed and I have used Nodes to code different statements under appropriate topics. Since each interview also represents spokespersons of a particular type, I have given each a source classification. Now, I want to run a query under a particular node (topic) against these source classifications, to collect all quotes from the same type of respondent on one list, but it seems the program only allows queries against node classifications. Please advice. Thank you!
