  1. I am using NVivo for a project after many decades of being away from the program. I now would like to use it for a very large dataset with comments from a survey. I want to be able to group comments so that I can identify shared experiences related to a given organisation. For example, I have 20 organisations and several hundred customers using those organisations over a number of years. I have imported a spreadsheet that contains the names of the organisations along with other demographic and distinguishing data. At this stage I only want to sort by organisation and year to be able to track feedback and sentiment between organisations and over time. I followed the online instructions but have a list of empty organisations and am not sure how I populate those with the relevant respondents but assume I missed a step where NVivo would do it for me! Any advice would be welcome. Thanks, M.
  2. I am importing survey data from an excel table generated by survey monkey. The case classifications are showing up as individual dummy variables rather than as attributes for which there can be multiple values. What I get is this, in which each choice in a multiple choice, close-ended question ends up an attribute in and of itself (so like a dummy variable). And here is what the attribute box looks like: BUT what I want is something like this, where each case classification shows an attribute for which there can be multiple values. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, In some projects you might have your research data has already prepared/transcribed in text format and relevant attributes recorded as an excel file. Nvivo allows you to import these recorded attribute values as classification sheets so that you can assign them to the relevant cases and perform analysis. In this video I demonstrated how this process works. For detailed information of Nvivo's Reports feature please refer here. I hope this helps, Please share your ideas using "write a review" button below. Regards,
  4. When I want to add a case classification to my file via right-mouse-click; the unfolding bar does not show me all the case classifications anymore. How come? How can I solve this? If I then click on 'more' it shows, on the contrary, file classifications. If I, by way of experiment, click on any of those, it shows the below error message and then the program closes itself. What can I do? Error Message: Unable to cast object of type 'QSR.NVivo.Common.Business.Domain.SourceCategory' to type 'QSR.NVivo.Common.Business.Domain.CaseCategory'. 5. Hi, Can you tell me the purpose of create 2 case classifications - articles and author - when we do a literature review and what attribute we should use for each classification? I watched some YouTube videos (an official video from QSR and the other offered by Southern Cross Postgraduate Association on how to do literature review in NVivo) and saw that files were classified by articles and authors. I guess it serves some purpose, but I couldn't find explanations on why as well as how we should do it. Many thanks in advance!
  6. Hello everyone, I am trying to classify my cases for comparative analysis for my graduate thesis. I have run into a glitch whereby I cannot select the already created classification in the drop down menu i.e. the drop down menu is not showing two additional classifications I've added. I have attached screenshots to better illustrate the problem. Thanks in advance for your help!
  7. Hello, all-- I'm using NVivo 12 Plus. I'd like to code data from a spreadsheet with NVivo and then export those codes with their associated case classification as a spreadsheet, preferably with both the name of the code and the coded text. It appears that this would be possible using the Coding Summary by Code Extract and adding the Case.Classification.Name field, but my exports have this field blank. At the moment I have one spreadsheet with the first column in the spreadsheet stored as a Case Classification. Is it possible to create an extract that would associate the Case Classification with the codes using spreadsheet data? If not spreadsheet data, would it be possible for individual files, like .pdfs or .docx documents? I'm willing to consider other workarounds, as well, but I do need to get the data out of NVivo because I'll need it for multivariate analyses. You can see the blank classification field below:
  8. I have imported a data file into NVivo 12 Plus from SPSS. The data file contains both demographic info and qualitative responses to questions for respondents organised by id number. I have two problems: 1. I have specified it as a case classification, but it doesn't ask me which questions are open-ended and which are closed-ended as per all the guidance I can find, and I'm not convinced it has formatted it correctly 2. I am unable to do any coding (a coding query is returning no results) because it doesn't seem to be recognising the qualitative data as text I'm only a novice at NVivo so I have no doubt I'm probably doing a number of things 'wrong' but I'd be grateful for some help. Here is a snip of my NVivo screen:
  9. The two options for cluster analysis appear to be Source and Node. Is it possible to do a cluster analysis for sources that I've grouped using case classification attributes? For example, let's say School 1, School 2, School 3, ... n each have a # of sources (records, interviews, etc.). I made these sources into cases, then assigned the names of schools as case classification attributes (so School 1 is the attribute value for all its sources and so forth). I want to see which schools (= its collection of sources) have similar coding.
  10. Hello everyone, I am doing analysis of multiple data sources that were generated from the same participants over a period of time. Now what I am trying to do is classifying my participants as cases to be able to track behavior changes during a semester. The data sources that I used were focus group, in-depth interview 1 and 2, and reflective learning journal. Is there a way that I can make nvivo recognize the same participants in different data sources instead of treating them as different people? Thanks in advance :-) Adel
