Hello everyone, In NVivo, cases are codes that represent the 'units of analysis in your research project. It is not required for all projects to create cases and case classifications. However, if you would like to analyze the variation of opinions for demographic information, such as age and gender, then it is a good idea to create cases and assign attribute values to them. In this video, I try to explain the rationale behind why researchers decided to create cases and assign attribute values through case classifications. Then, explained how we use this information to perform queries for answering questions like: How do attitudes vary towards commercial fishing based on participants' community? Do opinions about economic issues differ based on age and gender? I hope this helps, Regards,-

Hello all. I wonder if you can help. I am trying to link sources to case classifications. Under case classifications I have a list of the interviewees with details about their gender and background. I have a number of sources - interviews (sometimes 2 files), notes, etc. The sources are coded but I wanted to run analysis seeing how noding changes depending on gender and background. To do that I'll need to link the sources to each case. How would I do that in such a way I could run an appropriate query? Thanks.

I have NVivo 11.4.0 installed on my Macbook Air and I am having trouble with cases and classifications. Every step has been followed to a. create cases, b. create a case classification, c. set attribute values, and d. assign cases to the classification created. Upon following this process, I am not able to see the cases (that represent interview respondents) in the case classification sheet. I am only able to see the attributes I created. Any thoughts as to what the problem could be?

Hello everyone! My organization recently purchased Nvivo 11 for qualitatively analyzing our open ended survey responses. I am using the text search query function to create nodes based on pre-established themes for our data. I input the data from an excel spreadsheet that has the following items: respondent id, gender, class year, open ended comment. I have been able to create the nodes based on our themes and export the findings in excel as: id, comment. What I would like to do is export the node with the case classifications as well, similar to how it was imported. My goal is to have a spreadsheet with: id, gender, class year, comment. I'm trying to get this for each node created so that essentially I've whittled down the large number of comments to only those fitting in with the themes we have identified which I will then separate by the other factors (gender and class year). I've used the export function in the data tab, but didn't find it provided anything useful regarding what I'm looking for. What I found more useful was right clicking on the node and using the "export node" option, but as I mentioned it does not indicate the case classifications in the output. If anyone could either provide directions on how to export with both the node comments and the classifications or indicate where to find that information it would be very helpful! Thanks!
