  1. Hello everyone, In NVivo, cases represent the 'units of analysis' in your research study—for example, the people you interviewed or the communities you studied. Your project might have cases for people, places, organizations, events or other entities that you want to analyze and compare. Nvivo allows you to create cases for multiple person interviews. Windows: Mac: Regards,

  3. I'm working on a study where new interview transcriptions are added to the data set continually. Many of these new interviews are conducted with persons that we have interviewed on one or more previous occasions. My question is: how do you autocode statements from participants in group interviews in such a way that they are added to the respective existing cases related to the persons in question? Sorry, if this question has been asked before - I couldn't find it in the history.
  4. Hej! Can anyone please help me to identify what is the file named ”----” (see photo below with red color underline) and what will this file affect my analysis and result? File position: under “cases” – then under “active_ancrod2(127)” (see photo below with red color underline on the left navigation panel view) . Thank you a lot in advance! Kind regards, Anna
  5. Hi In NVivo, when we code, we get the reference numbers (the count of times a particular node was mentioned by the participants/respondents/cases). I used aggregated nodes so whatever I am coding in child nodes are getting summed up at the parent node. So the reference number for a node becomes greater than the actual respondent/participant/case numbers. How can I get a summary about the nodes, number of references and number of respondents/participants/cases attached to the nodes? My project- 1. I am working on a dataset imported into NVivo using the SurveyMoneky option. I got a number of research questions in the nodes where I am coding references into new codes under each research question. 2. My survey respondents/participants are added in the case section. 3. I got 25 references in “Need for professional development” code of question 9. There are some references from same respondent/case were added to the child nodes so the aggregated reference number is 25 while the respondent/case number is actually 18 (meaning I coded references from 18 cases/respondents). How can I get a file where I will be able to show the number of references as well as case number for all the nodes tied to the questions. Thank you so much! Israt
  6. I have a coding matrix of cases by a few nodes. I want to produce a report of the text coded at the specified nodes for each case. It should look something like this: Case 1 Node 1: Text..text..text … Node 2: Text..text..text … Case 2 Node 1: Text..text..text … Node 2: Text..text..text … Etc. Does anyone know how to do this?
  7. Hello all. I wonder if you can help. I am trying to link sources to case classifications. Under case classifications I have a list of the interviewees with details about their gender and background. I have a number of sources - interviews (sometimes 2 files), notes, etc. The sources are coded but I wanted to run analysis seeing how noding changes depending on gender and background. To do that I'll need to link the sources to each case. How would I do that in such a way I could run an appropriate query? Thanks.
  8. Hej, In terms of setting up my project, I would like to find the best approach. I want to basically establish an actor-place network - who has been where, when and why and what have they generally said. Thus far, I have created a few cases based on persons, now I wanted to created new cases based on organizations, like Harvard University, but I seem to unable to link them, i.e. code one to the other? Do I have to code places as regular nodes?? Best, SCW
  9. Hi, I have a fairly simple question but I am stock so any help would be welcomed! I did a qualitative research for my doctorate in organizational psychology. I have two data gathering and I am looking to put the 2 verbatim under the same case. I started by importing the T1 of verbatim and made them into a case. Now, I dont find a way to had the T2 verbatim to the case. I need to do it in order to complete my intracase analysis! Am I clear? Thanks everyone for your help! Emilie
  10. Hello everyone! My organization recently purchased Nvivo 11 for qualitatively analyzing our open ended survey responses. I am using the text search query function to create nodes based on pre-established themes for our data. I input the data from an excel spreadsheet that has the following items: respondent id, gender, class year, open ended comment. I have been able to create the nodes based on our themes and export the findings in excel as: id, comment. What I would like to do is export the node with the case classifications as well, similar to how it was imported. My goal is to have a spreadsheet with: id, gender, class year, comment. I'm trying to get this for each node created so that essentially I've whittled down the large number of comments to only those fitting in with the themes we have identified which I will then separate by the other factors (gender and class year). I've used the export function in the data tab, but didn't find it provided anything useful regarding what I'm looking for. What I found more useful was right clicking on the node and using the "export node" option, but as I mentioned it does not indicate the case classifications in the output. If anyone could either provide directions on how to export with both the node comments and the classifications or indicate where to find that information it would be very helpful! Thanks!
  11. Hi, I am using the latest version of Macintosh and I am currently working on the literature review. I am using different documents but they are written by the same author. I have viewed the youtube and for those documents written by the same authors, they should be classified as one case. So in this case, I am trying to merge these separate cases into one main case that capture the information on that author who wrote different documents. However, I have a problem that I could not merge these selected cases into one case. I have searched for information on how to merge selected cases but there is no such information on how to merge cases in Macintosh version. Can anyone advise me on how to carry out merging of certain cases?
  12. I am hoping for some assistance--in NVivo 9, I do not see how to do something that I knew how to do in NVivo 8. I typically identified whole interviews as "Cases" in NVivo 8--e.g., all interviews of doctors as one type of case, all interviews of nurses as another type of case. I do not see how to do that in NVivo 9. 1. The "Classification" feature in NVivo 9 appears to not be a replacement for the Cases feature, because each document can only be classified as one thing. I want to be able to classify documents in two categories*. 2. Brief internet searching** led me to believe that the expectation might be to use nodes for the same purpose. I'm confused about that, though--cases functioned quite differently (e.g. creating a node just codes the whole document as part of that node, but I don't then know how to pull data by an other node for only one document-type...so this seems to not be a replacement feature). How do you recommend that I proceed in order to get the same functionality that Cases gave me (ability to code/classify documents as belonging to a category/document-type, but also ability to have documents be in more than one category; ability to pull nodes by document type (e.g. pull things I've coded as "areas for future research" but only for one grantee))? Thank you! *Explanation: These are documents about grantees. I want to be able to classify/Case the documents by which grantee they are about, and also by document type (annual report, proposal, evaluation, etc). ** See http://help-nv9-en.qsrinternational.com/nv9_help.htm#deep_concepts/key_differences__nvivo_8_to_nvivo_9.htm#MiniTOCBookMark3
