Hello everyone, Nvivo allows you to import classifications for your files and cases so that you can assign desired attributes at once instead of manually creating them. In an ideal scenario, you would have your files completed and ready for the import process. Let's say you completed and transcribed all interviews and created an excel file for your classifications. You can first import your files and create cases, then import classifications to assign attribute values at ones to those existing files/cases. However, it is also common that you might need perform additional interviews at a later time and you will be able to import them upon completion. Furthermore, you might want to add or update additional attributes for your data. In both scenarios you can utilize import classification feature to create/add/update attributes for your files and cases. In this vide I explained how to do this in both scenarios. One thing that is critical to this process is you need to prepare your classification as described here so that Nvivo can match existing data with the classification sheet. I hope this will be helpful. Regards,
  2. Hello, Everytime I try to open the classification sheet (formerly casebook) Nvivo (12 Pro) crashes. I read elsewhere the error may be due to a corrupted project. I did indeed convert my project recently from Nvivo11 to NVivo12. Everything else runs fine though. How can I fix this issue and how do I know my project may be corrupted? This is the error message displayed: Error Message: An item with the same key has already been added. Stack Trace: at System.ThrowHelper.ThrowArgumentException(ExceptionResource resource) at System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2.Insert(TKey key, TValue value, Boolean add) at QSR.NVivo.Common.Business.Domain.CategoryLayout.a(NodeSortOptions A_0, Boolean A_1) at QSR.NVivo.Client.Presentation.Forms.CategoryDetailForm.ah() at QSR.NVivo.Client.Presentation.Forms.CategoryDetailForm.ai() at QSR.NVivo.Client.Presentation.Forms.CategoryDetailForm.a(EventArgs A_0) at System.Windows.Forms.Form.OnCreateControl() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.CreateControl(Boolean fIgnoreVisible) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.CreateControl() at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmShowWindow(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Form.WmShowWindow(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) Many thanks. 3. Hello everyone, I have open-ended comments from a survey - which I have uploaded from an excel sheet. It was a large survey, so I made two excel files: sheet 1) id and all open-ended questions with comments; sheet 2) id and demographics. However, I am not sure how to ensure that the classification sheet is matched with the responses from the open-ended comments. I would like to right click on a open-ended comment and see which participant said this and see their demographics at the same time. When I right click in the open-ended comment I can 'open the reference source' but this takes me to the full sheet of comments and doesn't tell me which participant made that specify comment. Can nVivo 11 do this? OR have I failed to link/match the classification sheet to sheet 1? In otherwords, how can I see the demographics of the participant when reviewing a unique comment? Note. Format of id in sheet 1 is id.0001 - id.3420 BUT in order to import the classification sheet (sheet 2), I had to make the id column in the format id0001 - id3420 (without the '.' - as it was considered the same and would not upload). Thank you in advance
  4. I have just discovered that my Node Classification Sheet for Participants does not include rows for five of my interview participants. In the Properties box for each of the Nodes that is missing from the sheet, the classifications option indicates that it is assigned to that classification and the Attributes Value tab shows that values have been assigned for each attribute in the classification. I have looked around for a way to update the Node Classification Sheet, but cannot find one. I did try the "Show All Rows" button even though there was no indication that rows were hidden. That made no difference. If I export and import, I will have the same information that I have now. We use NVivo 10. These are the last five interviews imported into the project. Any idea how to get these nodes and their attribute values enterred into the classification sheet without having to do it outside of NVivo and importing a new sheet? 5. I have created a classification sheet in Excel. I believe I have assigned the Rows and Columns appropriately, but when I go to import it, it is not available to be imported. Help! Thank you! ClassificationSheet.xlsx
  6. I have sources that have the name of a person, say Ahmed Hamza. I have an excel spreadsheet with lots of attribute data about each person, like Ahmed Hamza. I can import the excel spreadsheet as a node classification sheet. 1) When I do this, there is a way NVivo will recognize that each entry in one column, the names, should become nodes? The process here does not specify if the column with item 1,2,... become nodes in NVivo. 2) Assuming that #1 works and now I have a classification sheet where each row is a person coded as a node and also classified as person with his attributes, here is next question. Can I then tell Nvivo to find every instance of each name and code them all at the node of that name (which is classified as a person?) For example, Ahmed Hamza is imported via #1. Now I want to make sure that wherever in my sources "Ahmed Hamza" appears, those references fall under the node I just created. Thanks!
  7. When I select an individual Interview in the People source folder, and go to properties and try to select a classification (people), there are no classifications listed. When I go over to Node Classifications, however, Person is there, along with all the attributes (Race, age,etc.). To give more background about my file: In the Node tab there is a People subfolder, with the same titles (of interviews) as in the Source tab. In Source tab, there is a People folder, with each interview titled the same in the Node tab. However, all the Participants located in the People folder have 0 sources and 0 references. All the Nodes (in node tab) under the People folder representing the interviews have 0 sources and 0 references, while the transcripts (With the same names) located under Internals/People are showing the nodes coded. As far as I can tell, there is a problem with classifying sources and assigning the attribute values to them. Thanks! NVIVO file screenshots.doc
  8. Hi there, I am trying to import a classification sheet, which is an excel document containing all of the demographic information relating to a sample of interviewees, e.g. name, gender, location, age etc. Every time I try to import the document, the attributes for each individual appear as 'unassigned'.. i.e. let's say for 'Laura', her gender, location and age all appear as unassigned within Nvivo, even though all of these things are filled in with text in the excel sheet. I am importing the sheet as: Step 2: Classification type - node classification Step 3: Specifying nodes are represented as names and located within a specific node (they are all students, so appear under the 'student' node) Step 4: Keeping the default settings for date and time format I've attached one of the sheets I've been trying to import to Nvivo as an example. Any help would be appreciated as I have classification data on around 100 people and don't want to have to manually assign attributes. Thank you LDOs.xlsx
  9. Hi, I have created a source classification sheet and am entering information for about 100 different sources against the sheet. For the purposes of assigning attribute values, I open the classification sheet (undock it) and then transpose the sheet so that the sources are listed in the top row and the attributes are listed in the left hand column as I find this easier. All goes along fine but then occasionally the classification sheet automatically sorts the attributes according to alphabetical order without me prompting the sheet to do that. Perhaps I am inadvertently clicking something but I don't think so. I can't figure out how to stop this alphabetical sorting from happening nor how to sort the attribute list back to the original order (the order I entered and organised the attributes when creating my source classification sheet) once it has sorted alphabetically. I'd really appreciate any tips on how to solve these two problems!! Thanks
