  1. Hello. I have imported the demographics of the interviewees in accordance with the instructions http://help-nv11.qsrinternational.com/desktop/concepts/organize_your_demographic_data.htm#MiniTOCBookMark3 and created case nodes for each of my interviewees as instructed. When I then try to 'Explore, Chart, Coding by attribute' (for example if I want to create a chart of the age spread for a particular node) the result does not show properly - I have attached a screen shot of what comes up with some questions. If anyone could guide me what I may have done wrong I would be very grateful so I can explore the demographic relationships more. Many thanks. MJW MJW Exploring via attributes NVIVO 11 Question.docx
  2. Hello everyone, I have open-ended comments from a survey - which I have uploaded from an excel sheet. It was a large survey, so I made two excel files: sheet 1) id and all open-ended questions with comments; sheet 2) id and demographics. However, I am not sure how to ensure that the classification sheet is matched with the responses from the open-ended comments. I would like to right click on a open-ended comment and see which participant said this and see their demographics at the same time. When I right click in the open-ended comment I can 'open the reference source' but this takes me to the full sheet of comments and doesn't tell me which participant made that specify comment. Can nVivo 11 do this? OR have I failed to link/match the classification sheet to sheet 1? In otherwords, how can I see the demographics of the participant when reviewing a unique comment? Note. Format of id in sheet 1 is id.0001 - id.3420 BUT in order to import the classification sheet (sheet 2), I had to make the id column in the format id0001 - id3420 (without the '.' - as it was considered the same and would not upload). Thank you in advance
  3. Hello I've gone into my project and wanted to connect demographic data from my node classifications to participants' images, i.e. grouping or connecting all the images drawn by people 18-29, then 30-39 etc. How on earth do I accomplish this? I've tried using the Query Wizard and selected the last two options but to no avail. Would love for someone helpful advice that doesn't simply direct me to the N10 tutorials, I need specific advice on dealing with images. Thanks!
  4. Good Day, I've been trying to get my data analysis in gear but cannot get beyond an issue when importing my dataset (from surveys) into NV. My survey has been complied into one Excel file (.xlsx) and I've cleaned the columns as best I can given the responses from participants (deleting spaces, capitalizing lower cases for proper nouns, spelling etc.). When I import into NV here is what I do and the problems I'm encountering: External data> dataset> Import wizard All columns are selected as classifying fields except the last 4 (net use, drawing, website, TV) This is the 1st issue: the column that contains values for hours(net use) to 1 decimal place is NOT readable by NV as a classifying field citing the numbers are off somehow) complete import I create a classifying node named "participants" I select the data set and chose "classify nodes from dataset"> nodes are populated the 2nd issue is when viewing the demographic info, everything looks good when I click and chose "visualize>chart nodes by attribute value" I get the proper numbers and % of age, language, job, education etc. BUT when I try to get info on COUNTRY the "other" category is full of 80 occurrences, this includes 11 references of "Malaysia" as well as references of Thailand and China (all spelt correctly, same format (text) same font, size etc.) This also happens with the RESIDENCE column which has cities and states listed and shows 147 instances of "OTHER" I've tried saving as different file formats checked the Excel file for variations but cannot locate the source of this error and find it very frustrating that NV can't distinguish these are the same words. The only other info I have uploaded to my project are 1700 images, after seeing the error above I deleted my data set and the subsequent nodes I got from auto coding for those 4 codeable fields listed above. I certainly don't want to upload ALL 1700 of them again since NV has no proper drag and drop and files have to be selected again & again using 'browse'(although losing days of work seems to be the norm with NV). I would really appreciate some advice or if someone could identify what the problem is or what I'm doing wrong here so I can proceed with figuring out this cumbersome program. As mentioned elsewhere on these forums the ability to edit datasets after import is crucial especially for a program designed to handle large sets of data which of course will turn up a few mistakes in the process and need correction without having to begin again from the start. Thanks! SURVEY DATA3.xlsx
  5. Hello there! As a novice in NVIVO I could use expertise and experience for an issue that I don' t know how to handle. I currently work with focus groups so I use case nodes for each participant. My problem is the following. When I create free nodes for a topic, I cannot see how many different participants have brought it up unless I count them manually because although they are different cases they are all in the same source file. Is there a way to fix that so that in a free node report I will know a) the number of sources (focus groups), the number of case nodes (participants) and c) the sum of references. Is there a solution for that? As an alternative I am thinking of creating different doc file for each participant but I am hoping for a more software driven solution. Looking forward for your suggestions! Eugenia, PhD Candidate Greece
  6. Hi, I'm currently coding a library survey. Most of the fields are closed questions - participants selected an option from a dropdown list. I only have one "Comments" field that's open. I've created nodes and applied them to the comments field, and then auto-coded the closed questions. What I'm trying to do now is to get ALL demographic data (user group, discipline, branch, age, sex) to show up along with all of the comments coded at a certain node (all comments related to "eResources", for example). I need to pass on all the comments related to eResources to my colleagues, who need to see the demographics of the user that made the comments. I can pull up the node view of just eResources, and then track them back to the demographic info by highlighting and clicking "Open Referenced Source" on a right-click. Instead of having to go back to the reference source, Is there a way to include the demographic info from the source alongside each reference in the node view? This seems like nVivo should be able to handle easily, but I've had a heck of a time figuring it out. I've searched around and can only find this: http://forums.qsrinternational.com/index.php?showtopic=4723&hl=%2Bdataset+%2Bcoding#entry13147. It doesn't really help me, as I want demographics for all coded text bits, not just to search for eResources AND a specific demographic. Any assistance would be much appreciated! Thanks, Kathleen
