  1. Hello everyone, When working on a project you might want to share coded sections of a file with following these steps: 1) Double-click a file to open it. 2) Click "Highlight" button. 3) Choose desired codes to highlight. 4) Press Ctrl+P Regards,
  2. Hello all! I have two NVIVO Projects. I have a document I have coded in one project, and I would like to copy it, along with all its coding into another NVIVO Project. How do I do this? Additional context if needed: I do my literature reviews in NVIVO and code the journal articles for my literature review as I read them. I have multiple NVIVO projects One NVIVO project for each different body of literature I work with, (For example, one NVIVO project for all articles related to Institutional Theory, another project for all papers related to Identity theory, another for all articles related to Feminist Theory). One NVIVO project for methodological papers/theory, One Project for each of my actual research projects (with the actual interviews/journals/artifacts from my fieldwork). I have some journal articles that span across multiple literature. For these, I have coded the papers within my Institutional Theory NVIVO project, but now I would like to also include in my Identity Theory NVIVO Project. When I copy (or export/import or whatever) the journal article into the new project, I want the article plus all the coding and nodes for it to transfer. I've tried to export the NVIVO project from one project and import it into the other. However, no matter how I try to do this, I only seem to be able to get NVIVO to transfer over either 1) ONLY the journal article without any related code information or associated nodes, or 2)ALL the journal articles and ALL the codes and nodes from the original project. I just want to copy 1 journal article from one NVIVO project to another, and retain my coding and any new nodes that were created. Any ideas? Thank you!
  3. Dear all I'm under a deadline, so I hope you could help me out quickly with this question. I'm a newby at Nvivo10, I've looked already into the guidelines but it's very confusing with all the posibilities and boxes you have to check. I've coded all my sources (texts) into nodes and childnodes. The result is a 'nodetree' with main nodes and childnodes etc. Now I want to export the hierarchy of two nodes, with the coded text under it, organised by the hierarchy. To visualise here's what I would like to have: "MAIN NODE" - subnode - subnode * subnode [coded text coded text coded text....] - subnode * subnode [coded text coded text coded text....] - subnode - subnode * subnode [coded text coded text coded text....] - subnode * subnode [coded text coded text coded text....] I don't know if it's possible (looking through the guidelines, I think it is, but I can't seem to find out how...), if yes: it would save me a lot of time! Thank you for any helpful input! Kind regards, Ellen.
  4. Hi Everybody, I am trying to export the specific IDs and references of the text from only the dataset in a specific node only. Please help me understand how to export it as an Excel file. I have tried everything but it only exports HTML. I don't want the references and I don't want the summaries because they do not have the IDs. please help me.Thank you
  5. I have customized my node hierarchy in descending order of frequency. When I export the codebook it seems to revert to original order.
  6. We are exporting our NVivo data into excel for use in Stata. Though most of our variables/codes/nodes are ordinal or binary, we have about 14 descriptive variables that do not measure anything. These variables include things such as the name of a dam, etc. When we export the data currently, excel treats these descriptive variables as binary variables (for each case, it is marked with a "1" for yes, this case did have a dam coded). We want this descriptive data actually included in the table without having to go back and do it by hand for each case (we have too many cases and there is too much room for error). Is there a way to export the actual coded text into the excel table?
  7. Dear NVivo community, I am using NVivo 12 Plus for Windows. What I want to do is an export to Excel (xls; xlsx) which comprises all references per node. This could look like this is done line by line, i.e. each line contains the name of the node, subnode, and the corresponding reference. What is a smart way to do this? guess this must be easy but I have not figured out how to do it yet. Do I have to use "Data Extracts" to do it? Will it possible to make a selection of nodes? Thank you! Dru
  8. Hello, When I export a word cloud from NVivo for Mac (v. 11.4.3) it doesn't export the entire word cloud. The lower 1/2 of the word cloud is cut off during the export process. I've tried exporting as PNG, JPG, and TIFF with the same results. The attached file demonstrates what is occurring. Not sure what I'm doing incorrectly here. I've come up with a workaround by printing to a PDF file but it would be nice to have the capability to utilize the smaller jpeg files in my dissertation. Respectfully, Shaun Hillis macOS High Sierra (v. 10.13.3) NVivo for Mac (v. 11.4.3)
  9. I have an open-ended question that I'd like to classify. I'm able to generate nodes that capture the main themes, however, how do I export the survey response and the node that has been assigned. Ideally I would get an Excel spreadsheet with the original response in one column and the node name assigned in the next column. I've been looking all over and can't seem to find a way to do it. Thanks.
  10. Hi, Any advice on how to share coding of a document (currently a source) with a colleague who does not use NVivo. Is there any way of exporting the document, showing the highlighting and node coding, like you can see with 'highlighting' and 'coding stripes' when working on a source? I have managed to export the whole document with highlighting, but no codes, or exporting all the text that is coded but not the names of the nodes they are coded to. Many thanks,
  11. I'm using NVivo to code open-response fields of a larger survey with many close-ended questions. My NVivo file only has 1 source imported: 1 Excel file with lots of survey respondents as rows and many columns of quant data in addition to a couple columns containing the open-response question qual text. We inductively coded the qual text to quantify topics that came up. Now my ideal would be to append columns to my original survey data set; 1 column per node, with values of 1 assigned in the column if the participant had text coded to that node and values of 0 assigned if their passage was not assigned to that node. Would it be possible to do this, and then export the data set back out to Excel? My hope is that once the raw survey data + node data is exported, I can put it into stats software to do things like run regressions and check the balance of whether the demographics of people who answered "none" or "n/a" to the open-response question varied from those who gave a true answer etc. Sorry if this was asked already - I didn't see it. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi, I have created cases and assigned case classifications, attributes, which have values. I can see how I can look at, and edit and export, a case classification sheet and see which values my cases are assigned at each attribute. What I would like to be able to do is see/export a list of all the attributes I have created and their possible values so that I can review the attributes (and descriptions) and values (and descriptions). Is this possible? Thanks
  13. Hello everyone! My organization recently purchased Nvivo 11 for qualitatively analyzing our open ended survey responses. I am using the text search query function to create nodes based on pre-established themes for our data. I input the data from an excel spreadsheet that has the following items: respondent id, gender, class year, open ended comment. I have been able to create the nodes based on our themes and export the findings in excel as: id, comment. What I would like to do is export the node with the case classifications as well, similar to how it was imported. My goal is to have a spreadsheet with: id, gender, class year, comment. I'm trying to get this for each node created so that essentially I've whittled down the large number of comments to only those fitting in with the themes we have identified which I will then separate by the other factors (gender and class year). I've used the export function in the data tab, but didn't find it provided anything useful regarding what I'm looking for. What I found more useful was right clicking on the node and using the "export node" option, but as I mentioned it does not indicate the case classifications in the output. If anyone could either provide directions on how to export with both the node comments and the classifications or indicate where to find that information it would be very helpful! Thanks!
  14. As far as I understand, an NVivo project with coded resources is stored internally as some form of SQL database. NVivo only offers the option to export summaries of the coding to .xls* formats. Exporting a node, for example will only provide a summary of the number of resources coded, etc. I would like to export the whole of my resources coding into a database file. That is, I would like the export to a single database file that contains all the resources and nodes in a relational format. A SQL database, for example. How can I do this? Thanks, Diego
  15. Hi All I'm thinking my issue may have a simple resolution, but I've had no joy from tech support or the online help as yet, can anyone help? I am using NVivo 11 and have imported transcripts (internals) and applied nodes (codes) to various portions of the text. I have activated coding stripes so I can see where each node is applied and that's all fine and dandy. I just now want to be able to export each transcript in word format (not PDF as they do not import into word well at all) showing coding stripes and paragraph numbers. I can then use these in my report as an annex at the end of the document. The report wizard throws up a million questions and I have no idea what its asking me, how is that a wizard? Is there a way to do this? Many thanks in advance Joel
  16. Hello I am a real newcomer to NVivo, so appreciate any help! I have imported survey responses from excel (free text) into NViVO and coded them in the source sheet using only nodes so far. As well as the comment there are other text columns to show which course they are on and department- is there a way to get a summary report of which comments have been coded which also includes the other info - course and school? At the moment it is just showing the section of the comment I coded. It would also be useful to get a count of how many people from a department made a certain type of comment etc.. I tried to do a matrix thing but couldn't work it out- is this the best way? OR can I export the dataset with the coding highlighted? When I export you can't see what has been coded and I want to filter out all of the non-coded comments. I will need to give a list of all relevant comments as an appendix but really don't want to have to code them all over again in Excel! Many thanks Jo
  17. Hello I'm trying to get a simple excel file that contains all of my nodes and reference counts but this simple task seems overly complicated and the Report Wizard is not giving me what I want, nothing close in fact. This guide is also not helpful: http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/create_reports_using_the_report_wizard.htm#Use_the_Report_Wizard Why does the Export/list nodes option not do this? That function exports only the first level node title and nothing else, what purpose does that serve? I just want to see all the things I've coded thus far in a list so I can share with my advisor when we review the work. How is this done?
  18. I realise that you can do this via the 'print' option - but why not just have it as an export option? To do it via print - it means having a PDF printer installed. Would be much easier just to have as an export option. Also - I would like to be able to do this in a batch option. I don't want to have to go to each source individually - I would prefer to be able to tick an option that says something like 'export all sources with coding stripes' and just have Nvivo automatically save with an auto-generated name (e.g. [name][coding stripes][date])
  19. I am using NVivo for Windows with Parallels Desktop on Mac. I have just started a new project in NVivo for Windows because the Mac-Version is still limited in functions and because of the possibility to export the project later on from Windows to Mac - and I definitely prefer to work only on the Mac-Version in the future as soon as there are more functionalities available in NVivo for Mac. In order to test how it would work to export a project from Windows to Mac, I copied the project (File - Manage - Copy Project) and converted it to a Mac project. Everything appeared to work fine, but I noticed that in PDFs which have been coded before the coding stripes have disappeared. If the coding stripes of that PDF in the Windows-Version are quite colored, there aren't any coding stripes in the same PDF in the Mac-Version. There are just the node names as usual besides the Coding density, but no stripes. Also the stripe of the coding density is just white. I would be very glad if you could tell me if I am doing anything wrong. Thank you very much Emanuel This is how the PDF and the window with the coding stripes looks like in Mac:
  20. Hello, I have tried several times to export all the sources (Word files) from my Nvivo project but when I select all the source files and export them, only the first source is exported. I would like to export the 50 files from the my nvivo project to 50 Word files, it would be great if I don't have to do this one by one. I am using Nvivo 10 on Windows XP. best, HRoels
  21. I have been using NVivo to manage panel data, coding certain passages in interview transcripts for years 1, 2 and 3 of the study. I need to generate a "profile" of a source document in such a way that I can tell which additional nodes were coded in each document's content for year 1, year 2, and year 3. I do not have a sense of how to do this in NVivo 9. I can generate a coding profile by using the Chart feature, and looking at the additional tab behind the generated graph, but I do not then have the ability to filter or sort by the year (or by other nodes). To complicate this, I need to generate multi-dimensional coding profiles for about 600 source documents. So a point-and-click strategy will not be sufficient. If this were a different program, I could write a code loop to pull the info and spit it out... but I do not think there is a "back side" of NVivo where I could write such an export loop. Help?! 22. Hi, I am looking for a way to export the nodes I have coded a video with, so that I can get out the information equivalent to what you see when you activate the coding stripes for a video, namely name of nodes, with start and end times for the video. If possible I would also like that the hiearchical structure of the nodes could be included in the export file, e.g. in a hiearchical tree manner. Best regards, Andreas Bergsland
  23. Hi, I have been trying, in NVivo10, to export a model to SVG so I can alter and adapt it in Adobe Illustrator. However, whenever I try to export the models to SVG, an error message comes up that says, "Model [name of model] failed to export". No addition information is given. I tried to make the model 'static', close & re-opened Nvivo. Are there any known issues with SVG export? Are there features that trigger this bug that could be eliminated or changed in model? Any other tips for successful export? Thanks for any advice you can give. - Colin
  24. I have tried to export 6 framework matrices, but only 3 were exported successfully. This is the error message that is displayed in a pop up window: see screenshot. How can I fix the issue?
  25. I currently have a project that has been coded in NVivo, but colleagues work using Atlas Ti 6 and 7. I know it is possible to take their files and open them in NVivo 10. Can I make changes and then send the file back to them. Will they be able to open it in Atlas. Is it only one way traffic? Is there a way to export a project (like Atlas can do using XML) with NVivo? I really need to get the project over to Atlas. If this is not possible how do I export my coding so that it can be used in Atlas. Any suggestions or work arounds would be greatly appreciated.
