Hello everyone, Nvivo allows users to import their interview data in various formats. If research data also has demographic information such as age, gender, etc. users will need to create both cases (to represent the participants) and case classifications (to reflect demographic attribute values for each participant). The next step would be creating codes for the interview questions. These actions would require multiple levels of manual coding before starting the thematic coding process. In this video I am suggesting a different approach to format interview data before importing them into Nvivo, which will be easier and faster way. If you are not going to use Nvivo Transcription feature, instead of transcribing your interviews as Word files, I would suggest to put all demographic data and interview questions into a single Excel file. This way will allow you to 1) Have your data imported as an Excel file, 2) Create your cases 3) Assign attribute values for each case 4) Auto-code your interview questions with a single import process. I tried to show both approaches for you to be able to compare. I attached a sample excel file for your reference. Hope this helps, Regards,- 1 review

Hello everyone, For the kick off I would like to share an article from Nicole M. Deterding and Mary C. Waters published in Sociological Methods and Research. Title : Flexible Coding of In-depth Interviews: A Twenty-first-century Approach DOI: https://doi.org/10.1177/0049124118799377 In their study Deterding & Waters argue that common practices of interview studies deviate from grounded theory framework in various ways. Based on their analysis on published articles, they suggests ways to improve research quality via outlining steps in data organization and analysis to efficiently using CAQDAS. Please feel free to share your opinion. Regards,

Hi, I have recently imported a number of audio files and interview transcripts into NVivo 10. The interview transcripts are all Microsoft Word documents. I can code the transcripts with no issues whatsoever. But I was listening to an interview and noticed a mistake in the transcription, I was able to click edit and select the word to delete it, however, I could not add any text to the transcript. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I need the transcripts to be fully editable within NVivo. Kind regards, Mitch

Hello! I'm working on coding interviews in NVivo 9. I have heard that in past versions of the software, it was possible to star interview questions so that they would be automatically coded to match the coded question response and also linked to the response. So if I coded an interview response, or a portion of an interview response, with node A, then the question would automatically be coded with node A and would be linked with the response text- the question and response would show up together in queries. Is this also possible in NVivo 9? If so, how? Also, to be clear, I'm not talking about assigning automatic codes to sections based on the interview question. Does that make sense? Thank you so much for all your responses and help!!! Best, SB
