Hello, I am new to Nvivo, but I am figuring it out. I have coded my data into nodes and now my process is to look at the nodes and create themes in a memo. The problem I am having is seeing my coded elements at the same time that I am working on the memo. At this point, I have a word document window next to nvivo and I am typing everything on the word document and then cutting and pasting into the memo. This seems ridiculous, but I can't figure out a different process to code and memo or a way to layout the windows so I can use nvivo only. I welcome any suggestions on what to do or the process they use to go from codes to memos. Sincerely, Jemel

Hi, I am new to NVivo and I am coding about 5 long interviews and I have about 100 nodes so far. (I searched the forums for "model layout", but couldn't find anything on this topic) I spent a couple of hours arranging the nodes in a model so I could see everything I needed to see, and communicate it to my colleagues. I noticed that I had forgotten one node, so I used Add Project Items to add that node. IT REARRANGED ALL THE NODES!!!! (thank goodness for Undo!!!). How do I get the layout to stay put when I add new project items to my model? Thank you, Bonnie

Hello, Sort of following on from what Mr_Tobi posted in the Mac Suggestions Forum: http://forums.qsrinternational.com/index.php?showtopic=5743 When I change the layout settings - by dragging - so Mac like - of the audio transcript layout - i.e. have the order changed to Speaker>Transcript>Start Time>End Time - save and close the project, then re-open the project, the layout is reverted back to the default Start Time>End Time>Transcript>Speaker. This is an issue for me as I prefer to have my layout with the "Speaker" in the first left-hand side column as it is easier for me when I am coding. For your reference, I have included screenshots of the changes I made and saved and then how NVivo returns to the default settings when I re-open the NVivo project. Since Mr_Tobi has pointed a similar issue, but within a different function, it seems to be an application-wide issue. Am I doing something wrong? I could not find anything in "Help" about changing the layout in the audio transcription. If this is a technical bug, could this be corrected? Oh, by the way, I really appreciate that the default setting in the Mac version of NVivo has the Time, Transcript and Speaker settings. The Mac version has one over on the Windows version. Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers! Darren

Hello, In working with NVivo for Mac, I have found that the displaying the ribbon is much easier to work with than using the textual menus. For one thing, I can, in an instance, see what tools are available. This is great! However, I find that that the ribbon area takes up much more screen space than visually necessary. This means that the other display areas have less real estate to work with. I realize I can hide the ribbon area, but as I point out above, the ribbon area is great to have continually being displayed. Is there a way to reduce the ribbon space, like the other windows? If not, can this feature be added? Just to provide a clearer explanation of what I mean, I have attached a screenshot with a red arrow showing the ribbon area. Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers! Darren

Hello, I am trying to rearrange my nodes by using Move Up and Move Down commands, but most of my Layout commands are disabled. What might be causing this? In another project I used to be able to use Move Up/Down without problem. Thanks for your help Tanja
