  1. In my office, we regularly code the responses to open-ended survey questions using NVivo. One issue we not have been able to resolve is the best way to deal with non-responses to open-ended survey questions when importing survey data into NVivo. Ideally, when viewing the node for each open-ended question in list view in NVivo, we would like the count of references to display the correct number of valid responses to each survey question (i.e. we would like the reference count to exclude non-responses). Even if we import all non-responses as blank cells (and replace all --99 missing values from Qualtrics with blanks), the reference count for each question node in NVivo references the total number of rows in the spreadsheet for each question (including blank cells), rather than the number of valid responses. We have found a workaround to filter out the non-response data from each question node using a separate classification sheet which indicates whether each respondent answered each question. However, this process has been very time intensive. If anyone has a solution to this issue, your advice would be very much appreciated!
  2. This seems like it should be a straight forward problem... When I upload my survey data NVivo will not add all of the closed questions (those I assigned in set up process/wizard) as attributes. I need to assign more columns to be attributes and am struggling to work out how. One assumption I have made is that all closed questions will be made as attributes and appear in list under case classifications - is this true? Questions: Why has NVivo not made all closed questions into attributes? Why have some closed questions and not others been made into attributes? How do I make columns of data into attributes quickly? When I create new case classifications the attributes are unassigned, with 300 respondents It would take yonks to assign manually Any help would be greatly appreciated! Tim
  3. I am wondering how I can link the surveys that have been done with the interviews of the same people (who are case nodes) so that their data is in the one spot?
  4. Hi, so far I have seen how we can use NVivo to link survey responses to say interview data from the same set of respondents. I wondered if it was possible to import two sets of survey data from the same set of participants to be analysed in the same project? I'll be more specific - I have a set of survey responses from about 800 respondents, which I have imported into Nvivo and started analysing. I now have a second set of responses to a different set of questions from the same respondents which I would like to add to the same project. I know I can't edit the imported dataset file, but can I import this second set with matching ID numbers for the respondents so that they all relate to the same case IDs for example? I hope my only solution isn't to start all over with a larger dataset!! Any help appreciated, thanks! Regards, Jill
  5. Hi I am very new to the Forum but I hope someone can assist - I have successfully imported a large data set from Survey Monkey and have coded this thematically, I had to do this before the survey was closed as the team had to show the preliminary findings. Is it possible to import the new surveys to this existing dataset and add the node classification sheet to the existing classification sheet ? The initial data was approximately 117 surveys and now there are now 198 so I basically want to be able to code and query across all 198 surveys. I am thinking I will need to import all the surveys again but hoping there is an alternative. Sarah
