Unable to Parse Bibliographic Data from Zotero or Mendeley
amyobrien posted a topic in NVivo for Mac
Hello, I've been having a lot of difficulties trying to import bibliographic data from both Zotero and Mendeley. Mendeley only imports the data as a report (which is blank) if I try to do a single file. I am able to import a single file and references from Zotero, but not the entire data set (it says it is unable to parse the bibliographic data). The data set has about 600 files so I have tried doing parts of this at a time but it can't even do two files and references without the error coming up. I've attached the ris file for reference. Thanks, Amy PhD Data.ris- 1 reply

Hello everyone, Nvivo allows you to import your references from Zotero to Nvivo for literature review. In this video I demonstrated how this process works. For detailed information please refer here. I hope this helps, Please share your ideas using "write a review" button below. Regards, -
I use Zotero as my ref manager. I am trying to import a series of PDFs into NVivo for OS X to use for a literature review. No matter what format I use to export my selection of articles from Zotero, I cannot import them into NVivo. Half of the time I can't get the software to accept the bibliographic index file. When it does accept the format and the "import assistant" comes up, I get the error: "Import Error: Unable to parse bibliographic data file." Can't start my work without getting these articles into NVivo. Any ideas? Using version 12.5.0 which is the latest.

Hello, This is my first time using NVivo and I'm trying to import a sample of newspaper articles from a Zotero library. I believe I'm using the proper procedure, but more than half the files show up in NVivo as a bunch of code rather than the actual text, whereas the remaining articles appear normal (see attached screenshots). The Zotero files each contain a URL to the news articles in my sample and I've checked to make sure they're all accurate so I don't believe thats where the problem is coming from. I've tried to determine any differences between the articles that import properly and those that don't but I can find any patterns so am unsure why this is happening. Any help would be much appreciated!

I have successfully exported some of my Zotero (version 5.0.93.3) library files .ris and imported in NVivo 12 Mac (12.6.1) with notes (memos). But some files failed to import with the message "Import error, Unable to parse bibliographic data file." What might be the issue? Please note that these are French version, if that makes any differences.
