Adjust your project setting before performing a text search query

Hello everyone,

In Nvivo you can search for any word in your data. However, please note that Nvivo has a feature called "stop words" which lists the common words that will not be taken into consideration by queries.

Therefore, let's say if you would like to search for the occurrences of "political will", first you need to remove the word "will" from the stop words list.

To do this:

1) Open your project

2) Choose File>Project Properties>General>Stop Words

3) Locate the word "will" in the list, remove it and choose OK

Now your text search query for "political will" will be able to locate the instances of "will".

I hope this helps you all,

Regards,

Hello, I was wondering if Nvivo is able to text search words/short phrases as well in the text search query function?

For example, when I use the text search query to search the words "needs to", I am only getting references that search for "needs" OR "to" but not both (despite me trying special --> "AND", or "required", or "distance to words". I also removed the word "to" in the stop words).

Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello @MAIx,

If you would like to search for a specific word combination after removing the necessary word(s) from the Stop Words list, then you would also need to specify proximity.

Please use below search string:

"needs to" ~1
