Exporting hierarchical nodes, child nodes and contents in one word file

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have finished all coding and would like to export them into word to write my report. I have about 10 parent nodes and 50 child nodes. When I export, NVIVO 10 only allows printing aggregate nodes from parent nodes without arranging them into hierarchies as defined during coding. It has created 10 different word documents for 10 parent nodes, ignoring the hierarchies. Is there a way to export all nodes and their contents according to hierarchies in one single document?

thanks

Hi Faisal,

I believe you are using NVivo 10 for Windows.

You may run a 'Coding Summary by Node report' in your NVivo project which will show you the information coded at all your nodes. Please refer to the below NVivo help link for more information:

http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/understand_predefined_reports_and_extracts.htm

Once the report is generated, you can export the report by right clicking in the open report and selecting Export Report Results.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Rahul Gupta

I am interested in the same issue as Faisal and the response seems to ignore the desire for the hierarchies to be shown in the report - sure you can get the coding for each node in a report, but getting the codes grouped together with the child nodes all under their parents with the coded text is what I'd like and haven't found how to do.

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo,

Can you clarify what you’d like to see in the report? The “Coding Summary by Node” report shows the hierarchical names of each node in the report so you can see where in the node hierarchy they appear. The nodes are also ordered so that all of the child nodes and their references are listed immediately after the parent node.

You are also able to create your own reports within NVivo or edit the included reports if the do not show all the details you are after. Please see the following link for how you can do this.

http://help-nv10.qsrinternational.com/desktop/procedures/using_the_report_designer.htm#Change_an_existing_report_in_the_Report_Designer

Heather
